Nairobi to Samburu – Into the Northern Wild

Your adventure begins early with a scenic 6–7 hour drive north to Samburu, passing through lush farmland, colorful roadside towns, and the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya. Stop for a relaxed pit break at Trout Tree Restaurant in Nanyuki or a similar place (your guide will let you know), perfect for stretching your legs over a cup of fresh Kenyan coffee.

Arrive in Samburu in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Later, head out on your first game drive—golden light, red-dusted elephants, reticulated giraffes, and the elusive Grevy’s zebra welcome you into their world. As night falls, you might hear the Ewaso Nyiro River whispering outside your room—a lullaby from the wild.

Stop for a picnic lunch beneath an acacia tree before continuing your search. Tonight, sit under the stars and feel how vast and sacred this land truly is.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and take in your final moments in Samburu’s calm wilderness. Depart mid-morning, retracing your route back toward Nairobi. Stop in Nanyuki to stretch your legs and a last view of Mt. Kenya before continuing on. Arrive in the city by late afternoon, your camera full and spirit fuller — having experienced the rare beauty of Kenya’s wild north.

Drive time: 6 hrs, with a relaxed stop in Nanyuki or Timau (your guide will communicate with you).
