Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve
You will be picked up at 7:30am and driven to the Masai Mara National Reserve. The Masai Mara is located in southwestern Kenya along the border with Tanzania. The scenic drive takes about five hours, passing through the Great Rift Valley before reaching Kenya's premier game reserve. We will briefly stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint to enjoy stunning views of the world's largest valley before arriving at AA Lodge Mara for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural visit to a nearby Maasai village to learn about traditional customs and daily life. Masai villages, also known as "Manyattas", are traditional settlements inhabited by the Maasai people, a semi-nomadic ethnic group known for their distinct culture, colourful dress, and deep-rooted traditions. Visiting a Masaai village offers valuable cultural insight and is a common addition to safaris in areas such as the Masai Mara. After breakfast, you will take an early morning drive to Lake Naivasha. Lake Naivasha is the highest and most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes. At 1,910m (6,200ft), its waters are fresh, and the lake is fringed with dense clumps of papyrus, which the ancient Egyptians once used to make paper. Kingfishers perch on the papyrus, while herons hide among it in search of food. Lake Naivasha is also a renowned birdwatching destination, with over 400 species recorded. It is a favourite weekend retreat for Nairobi residents, who visit to sail, waterski and fish. There are no crocodiles in the lake because the water is too cold for them due to the high altitude, but it is home to many hippos. Along the lakeshore, vineyards produce grapes for the country's fledgling wine industry. You will have lunch before preparing for an afternoon boat ride on Lake Naivasha, after which you will check in at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort.
