It is one of the island's best-known reserves, featured in numerous television documentaries. Berenty is located on the bank of the Mandrare River and is a small island (265 ha) of natural habitat surrounded by a huge sisal plantation. It is one of the few reserves where visitors are allowed to wander without a guide, which provides a rare opportunity to be alone with the wildlife.
Berenty is the place to see verreaux`s sifakas “dancing” across open ground and intimate encounters with troops of ring-tailed lemurs emblematic of Madagascar
species are guaranteed. There are equally friendly brown lemurs, hybrids of eulemur rufus and E. collaris.
In adjacent areas of spiny bush, nocturnal mouse and sportive lemurs and fat- tailed dwarf lemurs are readily seen, sometimes even during the day at the hole of woods.
