Dar Es Salaam to Gombe National Park

Begin early with a transfer from your hotel to Julius Nyerere International Airport for a flight to Kigoma.

Upon arrival, meet your guide and board a boat across the calm, crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika toward Gombe Stream National Park. The scenic journey offers views of fishing villages and lush hillsides before reaching the park’s shore.

After lunch at your lodge or campsite, enjoy an orientation walk along the lake, spotting colorful bird species and perhaps a troop of baboons near the beach. In the late afternoon, relax at the lodge, swim in the lake’s pristine waters, or take a gentle forest walk to acclimatize before the trek.

Dinner and overnight at Gombe lodge or campsite, listening to the sounds of the forest under a star-filled sky.

Chimpanzee trekking at Gombe National Park

After breakfast, set out on your guided chimpanzee trek deep into Gombe’s lush evergreen forest, tracing the same trails Jane Goodall once walked.

Move quietly as your guide listens for calls and rustles in the canopy, leading you to a chimpanzee group. Spend up to one hour observing their natural behaviors—grooming, feeding, and socializing—while learning about their complex lives. Encounter other wildlife such as red colobus monkeys and tropical birds.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then visit Kakombe Waterfall or Jane’s Peak before boarding a boat back to Kigoma in the late afternoon.

Check in at Kigoma Hilltop Hotel, perched on a hillside with sweeping lake views. Enjoy a relaxed evening, a refreshing swim in the pool, and a sunset dinner overlooking Lake Tanganyika.
