4-Day Of Hiking Mountain Meru Through Mariakamba Route

Momela Gate 1500m to Mariakamba Hut 2514m

On the first day of hiking, you will start with a ranger escort through Arusha National Park. You will spot wildlife animals such as giraffes, buffalo, antelopes, zebras, and colobus monkeys.
The forest is also rich with a number of birds such as turacos, hornbills, and many more.

You will also come across scenic spots such as the Ngarenanyuki River and the iconic Fig Tree Arch. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the surrounding highlands, and diverse vegetation, along with opportunities to spot wildlife.

Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut 3570m

• Distance: 8 km, 3–5 hrs.
• Steady climb through montane forest and open moorland.
• In the afternoon, you'll hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization.
• Your overnight stay will be at Saddle Hut.
Spotting specular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the ash cone, and Mount Meru walls.

Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak 4566 m

You will have a night summit at the peak of Mountain Meru. Please remember that we will start at midnight to outsmart the sun's shine. You will also have a crater rim walk. This is the trail that follows the dramatic knife-edge with breathtaking views into the crater and ash cone.
Summiting sunrise at the socialist peak, the main reason is to see the sunrise of mountain Meru.
Ash cone view is unique to Meru, a huge volcanic cone inside the crater.
After spending time at the peak, you will start descending back via Saddle Hut to the Mariakamba Hut.

Mariakamba Hut to Momela Gate

This will mark the end of our hiking program. This day will start at Mariakamba hut, descending to Momela gate. It will be an amazing moment to enjoy and spot scenery that was impossible and missed on the way up.
Also, it will be very impressive to spot animals and vegetation for the second time. Animals such as buffalo, warthogs, monkeys, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and many more could be observed much more easily.
