Day 1

After a transfer from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate (1,800m), you register and begin trekking through dense rainforest alive with birds and monkeys. The trail ascends steadily to Machame Camp (3,000m), where you spend your first night on the mountain. Trekking takes about 5–7 hours.

Day 2
Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Leaving the forest behind, the trail climbs into moorland with heather and volcanic rock. Wide views of Kibo and Shira Plateau appear as you ascend steadily to Shira Camp (3,840m). The trek takes about 4–6 hours and offers stunning landscapes ideal for acclimatization.

Day 3
Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
The route ascends gradually to Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch and acclimatization. You then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m), set in a valley beneath the impressive Barranco Wall. This “climb high, sleep low” day is vital for adjusting to altitude. Hiking time: 6–7 hours.

Day 4
Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Start with the exciting scramble up the Barranco Wall, rewarded with spectacular views of the valley and glaciers. The trail continues over ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m), a shorter acclimatization stop that takes 4–5 hours of trekking.

Day 5
Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

From Karanga Camp, the trail ascends steadily through a dry, rocky alpine desert with little vegetation but expansive views of the mountain peaks surrounding you. The climb is not long, but the altitude makes every step feel more challenging. After 3–4 hours of trekking, you arrive at Barafu Camp (4,640m), perched on a narrow ridge that serves as the staging point for the summit attempt. The afternoon is spent resting, hydrating, eating a hot meal, and preparing both mentally and physically for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.

Day 6
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
At midnight, you begin the steep climb toward Stella Point (5,739m) and then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After enjoying the sunrise and photos, descend to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Hiking takes 11–14 hours.

Day 7

On the final morning, you descend through lush rainforest, enjoying the sights and sounds of the mountain one last time. After 3–4 hours of trekking, you reach Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you are awarded your summit certificates to commemorate your achievement. From there, a driver transfers you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, marking the successful end of your incredible journey.
