Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Begin with a transfer from Moshi to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration. Trek 5–6 hours through lush rainforest alive with monkeys, birds, and tropical flora. The trail is steep in parts but rewarding as you emerge to heather vegetation. Arrive at Machame Camp (3,010m) for dinner and overnight beneath starry skies.

Day 2
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Leave the forest behind and ascend a steep ridge into moorland, where landscapes open with views of Shira Plateau. Trek 4–6 hours across volcanic rock formations and unique flora like giant lobelias. By late afternoon, reach Shira Camp (3,840m), with wide vistas of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. Dinner and overnight here.

Day 3
Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
A long but important acclimatization day. Trek 6–7 hours, gradually ascending through rocky terrain to Lava Tower (4,630m). Enjoy lunch while adapting to high altitude. Descend into Barranco Valley, with its giant groundsels and spectacular views. Overnight at Barranco Camp (3,976m), sheltered beneath the looming Barranco Wall.

Day 4
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, climb the famous Barranco Wall, a fun scramble with breathtaking scenery. The trail undulates through ridges and valleys before dropping into the Karanga Valley. Trek 4–5 hours total. Arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m) in time for rest and acclimatization, with dinner served early evening.

Day 5
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue steadily uphill into the alpine desert zone with little vegetation. After 3–4 hours, arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673m), perched on a barren ridge. This is the base camp for your summit attempt. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing gear for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 6
Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit day begins around midnight. Trek slowly up steep switchbacks to Stella Point (5,739m), arriving at sunrise. Continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Africa’s highest point. After celebrations, descend to Barafu for a short break, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,080m) for a well-deserved rest.

Day 7
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending 3–4 hours through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Collect your summit certificate, meet your vehicle, and return to Moshi for hot showers, relaxation, and celebration. Overnight in Moshi or transfer to the airport for departure.
