Tarangire is one of Africa’s hidden treasures, a must-visit for anyone who cherishes wilderness and solitude. Its landscapes are strikingly diverse, characterized by towering ancient baobab trees and scattered termite mounds. During the dry season, the sun scorches the earth, turning it a dusty red, while the rainy season transforms the park into a sea of lush, green grasses.
Renowned for its large elephant population, Tarangire is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, waterbuck, baboons, dwarf mongoose, impala, buffalo, various antelope species, and the rare fringe-eared oryx. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards also roam the area. After an exhilarating full-day game drive, you’ll head to The Retreat at Ngorongoro for your overnight.

Today, you’ll journey to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. As you drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the vast, untamed beauty of the landscape begins to unfold. Acacia-dotted plains stretch endlessly before you, teeming with diverse birdlife and wild animals offering a glimpse into the raw majesty of Tanzania’s northern circuit.
Along the way, you have the option to visit a traditional Maasai village in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Here, you’ll meet with Maasai elders, warriors, women, and children, gaining insight into the customs, beliefs, and vibrant traditions of Tanzania’s last nomadic tribe. You’ll enjoy a game drive en route and continue with a full-day safari upon arrival in the Serengeti, immersing yourself in the wonders of this legendary ecosystem.

Day 5

Today, you’ll be rewarded with a full-day game drive in the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Often described as Africa’s Eden, the Crater is one of the few places on Earth where humans and wildlife continue to coexist in harmony. Descending 610 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, you’ll enter a natural sanctuary teeming with life. Thanks to the Crater’s permanent water sources, wildlife is abundant year-round, making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered black rhino, as well as wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, eland, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, and the impressive giant tusker elephants. Predators are also well represented with lions, leopards, cheetahs, and a host of scavengers like spotted hyenas, jackals, and occasionally wild dogs.

Day 6

Today, you’ll enjoy a full-day game drive in the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park boasts a stunning diversity of landscapes from grassy floodplains and acacia woodlands to dense forests of fig and mahogany, all set against the backdrop of distant volcanic peaks. The scenery here is so captivating that Ernest Hemingway once described it as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”
Lake Manyara also offers an exceptional introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. Highlights include flocks of pink flamingos, often seen lining the lake’s shore, along with pelicans, storks, and many other waterbirds. After a rewarding day in the park, you’ll return to Arusha in the late afternoon for your final evening in Tanzania.
