You'll enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you may get your first glimpse of wildlife. You will not descend into the crater today but will instead continue your journey across the vast, open plains that characterize the Serengeti ecosystem. The Lake Ndutu area is a critical part of the Serengeti ecosystem, famous for the Great Migration. If your visit is between December and April, you have a high chance of witnessing the calving season, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest give birth, attracting a multitude of predators. Even outside this season, the area is renowned for its resident cheetah populations and large prides of lions.
Your guide will take you to the best spots for wildlife viewing, from the acacia woodlands to the open, short-grass plains and the lake shores themselves, where you might see flamingos and other waterbirds.
