Day 1
Your 1-day shoebill stork trekking tour begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, followed by a scenic drive to Mabamba Swamp on the shores of Lake Victoria. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your local bird guide and board a wooden canoe to explore the swamp’s narrow, papyrus-lined channels.
The main highlight is the rare and iconic shoebill stork, often seen standing still as it hunts for lungfish. As you glide through the wetlands, you’ll also spot a variety of other bird species, including African jacanas, malachite kingfishers, blue-breasted bee-eaters, and African fish eagles. The peaceful canoe ride offers excellent photography opportunities and an unforgettable encounter with Uganda’s unique wetland ecosystem.
After the birding session, enjoy a packed lunch or local meal before beginning your return journey. You’ll arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe in the early afternoon, completing a memorable day of birdwatching and nature exploration.
