You can visit the Khwai Concession (which covers the NG18 and NG19 concessions) year-round. However, the best time for seeing animals and ideal weather conditions is from May to October. Khwai is less unpredictable when it comes to water levels than the rest of the Okavango Delta, and the concession can be reached by road throughout most of the year. Rain is more likely from November to March, but this is also the best time for birding as migrant species are present from November to April.

April to October Dry Season

  • Wildlife viewing is excellent, especially late in the season
  • Water levels are highest, which is good for trips
  • Trail conditions are at their best
  • Weather is fine and dry with cool evenings
  • July to October is high season, and lodges charge higher rates
  • October can get very hot

November to March Wet Season

  • With lots of baby animals around, predators are active
  • Wonderfully green landscapes
  • The best months for birding with migratory birds in the area
  • Wildlife can be harder to see as waters retreat and animals disperse
  • Water levels fall, making trips more difficult
  • Expect hot and humid weather conditions
  • Rainstorms can disrupt and send animals under cover
