The weather was lovely, a bit chilly in the mornings, but perfect all day. The scenery was gorgeous and varied throughout the park. We saw so many animals, even on the first evening game drive. The drivers knew the park well, and were considerate of one another. Gorgeous accommodations close to the park. We even got to see wildebeest running, although we missed some of the best views of that as we were a few weeks too late.

One of the most beautiful places on earth, full of wildlife

Beautiful landscapes, and we saw the big 5 (lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo) plus everything else - cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeest, hyena, warthogs, hippos, crocs, etc. We waited a few hours at the end to see a herd of wildebeest cross the Mara River. July and August is the best time to go to the Mara to see the wildebeest migration and cats hunting. We saw lions, cheetahs, and leopards with fresh kills. It's the dry season so more animals are out and about at the watering holes. The Masai are graceful with their bright red cloaks and kind to the tourists. We didn't do the cultural visit to the Masai village because another guest told us that you have to pay extra to get in, and it was mostly uncomfortable situations of them pressuring you to buy souvenirs or donate more money. You can hang out with Masai at the camps anyways.

Lenchada camp was great - safari tents with comfortable beds on cots, bed nets, and a private bathroom with hot water attached to
Read more your tent. There are Masai workers at the camp that make a campfire at night who are nice and fun to talk to. Some other tourists even bought a goat from the Masai and roasted it over the fire. Just make sure you leave your tent zipped so the baboons don't get in at night. No locks on the tents. Dinner and breakfast buffets were hot and tasty, and also had fruit, tea, hot chocolate, and beer. Only the packed lunch they gave us for the safari day was rubbish - sandwich with dry bread and a few slices of tomato - come on. Inedible. Luckily I had taken some extra breakfast with me. The camp runs a generator for a few hours so you can have lights and charge your phone.

The only critique is that many of the dirt roads are absolutely horrible and I'm surprised our big safari van made it through most of them. Even the roads outside the park coming from Nairobi practically gave me a stroke from the vibration, bouncing, and noise. Also during the high season, there are a lot of safari vans swarming around the animals, which is a bit annoying, but understandable.

I can't totally see why this is considered the top wildlife park in Africa, it is truly spectacular! The animals are almost too easy to spot! The beauty of the landscape is incredible, but it is a bit blemished by the hundreds of safari vehicles doting the landscape. The Masai farmers also put a bit of a damper on the bush vibe, riding around with their motercycles and leading huge herds of cattle around and into the park, but even with the overcrowding of tourists and the pollution from the local villages, the Mara shines as arguably the best and most beautiful park in Africa! So many animals and the lodges are superb, the people could not be nicer, and the wildlife viewing is some of the best in the world, biggest downer on the park is the lack of the endangered African wild dog, which is the crown jewel of wildlife enthusiasts everywhere, it is saddly almost never spotted in the park.

Simply the best experience of birding and wholesome wildlife watching in all of Kenya. We got to see the big cats, elephants, all kinds of herbivores and such a rich variety of birds. The camps are inside the Reserve and even the stay in the camps gets you so close to the wildlife. We stayed by a camp at River Talek and saw a leopard while walking to the restaurant for dinner! What an amazing abundance of diverse wildlife!
