There is not much to tell about Massai Maraanymore. It is well known through yearly migration of ten thousands of animals. But even the the migration is over and the herd have moved back to serengeti there is still lots of wildlife to spot. The big cats and other predators do not migrate. In the short grass it is difficult to spot lions or cheetas.
The backdraw during my visit were the ongiong presence of tons of cattle, goats and donkeys in the park.

We visited Masai Mara National Reserve in November 2011 which is considered to be a rainy season there. And rainy it was! As soon as we checked in to Sentrim Mara Lodge, it started pouring. For a moment we felt that the game drive we had been dreaming of had been drained away, but soon the weather started to ease off. The heavily clouded atmosphere added a breathtaking spectacle in the overall atmosphere.

Masai Mara presented an uninterrupted expanse of grass and trees which is really a treat to watch. Roaming around in the wilderness with the animals is something which is beyond expression. It like being a candid observer of a wildlife routine!

We also took the Hot Air Balloon Safari, without which I feel the safari experience is half-done!

The safari is absolutely safe and the precautionary procedures are well observed. The lodges range from extraordinary to very disappointing depending on what you pay for. Our experience of Sentrim Mara Lodge was really an exciting one.

Masai Mara is famous for the Wildebeest and Zebra migration to Tanzania around Mara River. We were not expecting to observe this natural wonder in November, but we were extremely lucky that we were able to see the famous uninterrupted chain of wildebeest migrating in November, and that was something which has left deep memories to me and my family.

The best of all for wide open breathtaking scenery and variety of species. I felt very emotional when leaving with feelings for both the animals and the beautiful local people. The first thing we did on returning home was to seek out a charity for the Masai people.

The Masai Mara was the icing on the cake following a truly unforgettable holiday. A Lion cub passed our vehicle, we saw cheetahs and a great variety of animals, hippos at Keekorok bathing in a pool. We saw a lilac breasted roller on a game drive, a beautiful colourful bird that looked like a spunk sparrow. Again our guide could not do enough for us and we even visited a Masai village. The only disappointment of a truly memorable holiday was missing out on the balloon ride due to winds. However, we made up for this by flying back to Nairobi in a small plane crossing over the Mara several times for about 2 1/2 hours, stopping to pick up passengers on the way.

This was the ultimate experience at the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge. Excellent accommodation. Saw the big five and more plus a ride in a hot air balloon.

Although the "great migration" is one of most beautiful things you can experience, the park is overcrowded by tourist, if you want to see a lion you just have to check how many minivans are concentrated in one place - That's not Africa!!!!
