Amazing opportunity to see diverse wildlife

The wildlife in Ngorongoro is amazing. You'll have no trouble finding zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, lions, hippos, elephants and many others. I wasn't lucky enough to see a rhino in the crater but we did see a cheetah which apparently are fairly rare inside. The weather was beautiful. It was somewhat windy and around 25 degrees Celsius. We stayed in the Serena hotel at the top of the crater which had great views into the crater. It had especially lovely sunrises. Meals were typically a buffet salad and dessert bar with a small selection of main dishes to choose from. They were quite good. Breakfast was also a buffet. We traveled with Rashidi from Leopard Tours who was an excellent guide. He was well versed in all the various animals and birds that we saw on our tour and he searched very diligently to find all the animals we wanted to see.

I spent a full day in Ngorongoro Crater as part of a 9-day safari in Tanzania. The wildlife was amazing. Within the first 20 minutes in the crater, we saw a lioness lying by the side of the road. We saw many more lions that day, along with Cape Buffalo, hyenas (including several feeding on a zebra kill), jackals, elephants, baboon, numerous hippos, warthogs and many Thomson's Gazelles. The birdlife was diverse and plentiful: Augur, Herons, Ibis, Ostrich, Cranes, Tawny Eagles, a Kite, Egrets, Guineafowl, Bustards, Vultures and Weavers. The scenery was spectacular, from the crater walls to the numerous dust devils. A truly amazing day.

The Crater is incredible, you cannot find anything similar in the world, this is why the 5 stars are well deserved. Unfortunately, the space in the crater is limited, so you see many other cars doing the game drive with you.

If you need a safe card this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed and If you pair it with Serengeti the chances of a Big Five score i 99%. Here you will see a rhino, 99% chance. Then the scenery is amazing. The only downside is the price, and all the other tourists ... you will not be alone when you see the rhino or the lions.
I have been down in the crater more than eight times from 1991-2017.

A Lost World

I was on safari for a week, and visited Arusha NP, Lake Manyara NP, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro NP and Tarangire NP. I went to Ngorongoro after visiting Serengeti, but my first sighting was driving around the crater on my way to Serengeti. To say it was a breathtaking drive would be an understatement, the drive only served to heighten my anticipation. Returning to Ngorongoro did not disappoint. The crater rim is beautifully lush and green and has a surprising variety of animals. The drive in and out of the crater is stunning (different roads for each) and arriving at the base of the crater, it feels like you've descended into another world. There are animals everywhere. Lions, hyenas, zebra, wildebeest, elephants, and we even saw a rhino. The best way I can think of describing it is to cross Serengeti NP with Jurassic Park: The Lost World. It truly feels like you're going back to a time. If you're going to Tanzania, do no miss Ngorongoro.

I am into wildlife photography and after advice decided to go to Tanzania for the wilder beast migration in the Serengeti. Decided to include the Ngorongoro Crater. Spent a day there and it was out of this world. Stayed in the park the night before and could not believe the size of the Crater when viewed from the top. So large you could not see the herds of elephants down below. Had an early start in the morning and had a wonderful day. Came across 3 different lion prides, first one of 5 females and a mail on a fresh kill with hyena and jackal waiting there turn to get in on the act. I believe there are 5 prides which demonstrates the size of the crater. Also many large Tuskers (Male Elephants with massive tusks) Never thought I would see such long tusks nowadays. Came across a black rhino, right next to the road. There where many other animals including buffalo and giraffe. You can get very close to many of the animals. Had lunch by a small lake which also had toilets. There is also a large lake with pelican and flamingo but you cannot get close to it to see the birds as protected land around it. Male Elephant, place to go. I found a day was long enough but you need to stay the night before and after to make the most of it. Went from hear to the Serengeti with animals to see all the way. I went on my own and had my own driver/guide and 4x4. He made my trip so special I could not have asked for more.
