Just amazing - we saw so many animals, and it was a beautiful place overall. Wish we had had better weather when we were there - it was raining and cold but it didn't take away from the amazing wildlife that lives there.

Ngorongoro Crater has more advertising. In the crater there are not so many animals as the guidebooks write.

Lots of wildlife - but passive experience

We did the Northern Circuit, including Ngorongoro in December of 2017. The amount of wildlife seen was mind boggling. However, sitting in the car for 12+ hours per day started to get boring and the experience felt passive. Next time I would like to mix up the experience with fewer days of driving and include more culture or walking activities.

Driving through the Ngorongoro Reservation Area and the Crater was unique. So many different impressions and so many animals. Particularly loved the Hippo Pool.

Amazing diversity of wildlife; more lions than I've seen at any other park in Africa.

We spent one day in Ngorongoro Crater. The drive up to the top of the Crater alone was amazing. We were traveling with Ranger Safaris, and we were very confident in our guide's ability and knowledge. We stayed at the Sopa lodge, apparently one of only three on the Crater's rim. Service and food were fantastic, and wildlife wandered right up to the sun porch on the back of our room. Weather changed throughout the day, which made for a great experience. I've been on over a dozen game drives, and would say the standouts at the Crater were seeing a pride of 12 or more lions, a pond full of hippos who were rolling over in the water, and hundreds of zebras. What a day! Highly recommended part of any trip to Tanzania.

We recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Ngorongoro Crater during a Safari arranged by Road Scholar. It is a phenomenal destination and must see to anyone visiting East Africa. During our trip we toured Amboseli National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Carter, Serengti and Masai Mara. The highlight was the base of Ngorongoro Crater with its large variety of animals and birds that inhabit the Conservation area around Lake Magadi. We were able to easily view and photograph from close range elephant, cape buffalo, rhino, wildebeast, ostrich, zebra, topi, eland, warthog, gazelle, waterbuck, jackal, grey crowned stork, tawny eagle, black-sholdered kite, sacred ibis, weaver bird, kori and Hartlaub's Bustard, and many other birds. In the evening we enjoyed excellent entertainment and dinner at the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge on the Crater rim. We highly recommend this facility for its rooms, views and superb food. Our guide was Edwin Nyabuto. He was the best possible
