Amazing 8-day Great Migration safari
We have been living in Africa on a work assignment for a couple of years, and this is our second safari arranged by Blends of Africa. The previous one, in Uganda/Rwanda was arranged by Blends, but delivered by a different local company, as Blends did not typically have a presence in those countries. The trip reviewed here was both arranged and delivered by Blends, and we are extremely happy with the service provided.
We came to Blends of Africa Adventures via a recommendation from a friend, who had traveled to Tanzania with them. Our contact at Blends was Mary, the amazing Mary! She has been truly a joy to work with. Mary is always prompt to respond, proactive to let us know about potential issues in advance, and extremely knowledgeable about local issues and conditions. Even during the trip, we exchanged messages in real time and got resolution for issues -- and it was Mary checking in on us that prompted the exchange.
One unique feature of Blends is their detailed pricing structure, showing itemized costs for each aspect of the tour, including accommodations, transportation, activities, and fees (including park and concession fees). While other operators allow a certain degree of customization, the transparent pricing with Blends allows clients to make more informed tradeoffs in the planning of the tour.
We did a lot of research on potential activities and accommodation options in preparation for this trip. We were very pleased with the lodges and destinations we experienced. Because safaris tend to be rather expensive, it is sometimes difficult to evaluate the value for money, but we felt that we understood the solid value we were receiving, having considered other options.
Now for the tour itself, the best part. We arrived in Arusha late in the day, and spent the night near the airport. We then spent one night in Tarangire, visiting Tarangire the day before, then Lake Manyara the next day, on the way to Ngorongoro. Lake Manyara did not offer many different wildlife viewing opportunities, but we had the amazing luck to get stuck under a fruit tree, where baboons were feeding above and elephants around us were picking up fruit falling from the trees. We spent an hour surrounded by a herd of elephants, some at times within touching distance to our vehicle, unable to move because of other elephants in front or behind our vehicle. A bit scary at times, the experience was exhilarating.
We spent two nights in Ngorongoro at a lodge on the edge of the crater, with amazing views from our balcony. We were lucky to have clear skies at times, when we had a view of the entire crater, but also moments when we could barely see the grass in front. The trip into the crater was nice, but not as amazing as the rest of the trip. In retrospect, we did not see much more wildlife than later in the safari, and we felt it rather limiting that vehicles had to be out of the crater in the mid-afternoon. Some areas were also quite crowded with safari vehicles. But Ngorongoro is definitely an experience worth having.
The next three nights we spent at two camps, in Central Serengeti, Western, then Central again. We chose to go west, rather than north, and we were lucky that most of the migration was happening between the west and central areas. As such, we saw incredible numbers of wildebeest, zebras, antelopes and gazelles. We would often stop to see a large number of animals gathered in one spot, only to then follow the unending trail of others that were streaming into the gathering, as far as the eye could see. On our very first day, we were lucky to see three lion brothers resting just by the side of the main road, in a bush just a few miles after entering the park. We saw lots of other lions along the main roads, some mating, some resting, and others on the prowl. We also saw a couple of leopards, one in a tree with a Thompson gazelle, and one walking through the tall grass. We also saw a mother cheetah with a fuzz-covered baby, trying to hunt while also staying close to her baby. As we were stopped, watching, the cheetah crossed the road right in front of us, looking for a gazelle on the other side. We also saw lots of hippos, innumerable birds and beautiful flowers.
In terms of seeing wildlife, Serengeti was by far the most rewarding part of our trip. While it was nice to see other parks and environments, we could easily have spent a whole week in Serengeti enjoying the wildlife viewing options there.
A few practical points of advice: prepare for lots of flies when close to the migrating animals. Wear colors other than dark blue and black (which both attract tsetse flies). There will be lots of dust, so mind your eyes and nose (bring glasses, and maybe a face mask).
Most importantly, enjoy! On this trip, we have made memories we will treasure for the rest of our lives. For our next trip, we will surely contact Blends of Africa Adventures first.

Value for money, accomodating
My family of five couldnt express our appreciation & gratitude more to the team at Blends Of Africa who made our annual family trip an unforgettable one.
We got in touch with Mary a few months ahead and started making plans. Mary is attentive & accomodating. We could reach Mary at any time we had queries or needed clarification.
Budget wise, we think the proposed itinerary is extremely value for money as none of our friends or peers who did similar safaris came close to the budget we did.
While the costs were kept within a comfortable range for our pockets, the services & programmes were tip top as well. No cutting corners. This is extremely commendable.
The safari experience itself, our guides were Shem (Kenya side) & Ledger (Tanzania side, from a partner company).
They were very punctual every day. The cars were also clean every single day despite going through dust & dirt the previous day. Amazing commitment!
The guides were also very knowledgeable & professional. We got to learn more about the animals and their behaviours.
I would definitely recommend Blends Of Africa to my peers & friends who are interested to do a safari in Kenya & Tanzania.
An excellent team ready to serve and deliver to their clients
Tanzania Safari of a lifetime!
I had an amazing time in Tanzania, thanks to the team at Blends of Africa Adventures team who organized a smooth trip from Kenya to Tanzania. The team took care of my overnight stay in Arusha, and sent a guide for my city tour. This was my first trip to Tanzania, I had no idea how to even start planning my trip and am so thankful for the guidance that Robert and the team from Blends of Africa Adventures provided. The itinerary was perfect and I toured Tarangire National Park in a group. Hassan, our guide on safari made the game drive beautiful and worthwhile. He has great knowledge about wildlife, is a great spotter for animals and has a friendly charisma.
I stayed at a new, chic tented camp inside Tarangire, Conserve Safari for the three days safari. I felt the cost was well worth how much I got to see and do.The food was always fresh and amazing, and the chef ensured to collect feddback from the guests about the meals.
I really fulfilled a bucket list dream vacation, and I can't thank them enough for their personal attention to detail in making sure I was not just happy but delighted! Asante sana, Blends of Africa Adventures for the memorable moments!

I had the pleasure of booking my Mara Maisha Camp experience through Blends of Africa, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we left for the journey to the time we returned, everything was professionally organized and stress-free.
The team at Blends of Africa was friendly, responsive, and ensured every detail of the trip was well planned. Mara Maisha Camp itself was absolutely stunning — the staff were welcoming, the food was amazing, and the game drives were unforgettable. Seeing the Big Five up close was a dream come true!
I highly recommend booking through Blends of Africa if you’re looking for a smooth, well-curated travel experience. They made my safari adventure seamless and memorable. Looking forward to my next trip with them!

Our first excellent 12 day safari in Kenya and Tanzania
We arranged our first ever safari with Robert at Blends of Africa. We received 8 quotes from other safari companies and although some were bigger companies we followed our instincts and went with Blends and we did not regret it. Blends of Africa is a small company so we were a bit hesitant to book with them at first as we were worried about the itinerary, our payments, the security, the experience etc. It turned out that we didn’t need to worry as Robert and his team did an exemplary job. Robert responded promptly to all queries and provided us with different options so that we could build a custom-made safari that would work best for the 2 of us. Robert provided a detailed listing of all the costs and charges and made any modifications as we requested. He was prompt, professional and open to hearing any concerns. The company did everything it had promised in the original planning and the pricing was fair. Even throughout the safari, Robert checked in to ensure everything was going smoothly.
In the 12 days we visited 3 national parks in Kenya, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli. For this segment, Alfred (Fred) was our guide and he was excellent and did his best to spot all the wildlife he could for us. In the first 24 hours, we saw 4 of the big 5 including the rare black rhinos in Masai Mara. We saw a large family of cheetahs and many lions in different environments. As well, we saw many of the endangered Rothchild’s giraffes and white rhinos. Alfred was knowledgeable and his driving skills were superb given the difficult road conditions.
Next, we crossed the border into Tanzania for the last 7 days where we met our guide, Hassan. We visited Central Serengeti, Southern Serengeti, Ndutu Region, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Lake Tarangire. Hassan was an excellent guide. He was professional, very knowledgeable and kind. On top of that, he had excellent driving skills. He was always prepared to go every day at the time set and always had the jeep looking clean and professional. His keen eyes helped us spot things we would have never noticed on our own including a leopard, the recent carcass hanging in a tree ready for the leopard to come back to feast on, an attempted takedown by a group of Massai herding dogs on a baby gazelle and several lions climbing trees, just to name a few. It was amazing. Hassan’s knowledge of different bird species also was especially enlightening. He had a small selection of books he referred to if it was a species he was unsure of.
All in all, these drivers get the jeeps in and out of places you wouldn’t think possible. On the dodgiest of roads, we felt extremely safe in their capable hands. They are knowledgeable and professional and kind human beings. My spouse really enjoys photography and would often make requests for the drivers to stop or move forward or back a few feet so he could get a better composition. Both drivers accommodated his request to perfection and there were hundreds of these requests.
Thanks to the team at Blends of Africa we ended up having an excellent adventure. We ended up seeing all of the Big 5 and all the Ugly 5 as well as hundreds of other wildlife and birds etc. We got to understand the history and the ecosystem of these fabulous Kenyan and Tanzanian parks. And the people, they are phenomenal and some of our experiences at the lodges were superb. The crew at the Drunken Elephant in Masai Mara and the crew at the Osinon Camp in Central Serengeti, were especially amazing. Thank you. To our new found African friends, Mike and I say “Assante sana”.
