A Truly Unforgettable Safari Experience with Hyrax Safaris
My wife and I went on a private 5-day safari in Kenya with Hyrax Safaris in June 2025, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
From the outset, communication with Rose was seamless and prompt. Her professionalism and the competitive pricing were key reasons I chose Hyrax over the hundreds of other companies out there — and I'm so glad I did.
Our guide and driver, Ben, was simply outstanding. His tracking skills were top-notch — on several occasions, we were the only vehicle at sightings of elephants, cheetahs, and lions. We were often just a few feet away from these majestic animals — I’ll be sharing photos to show just how close we got. Thanks to Ben, we saw the Big Five and countless other species. It was a wildlife experience beyond anything we imagined.
The accommodations were excellent, with a special mention for Nakuru Sopa Lodge — and Lake Nakuru itself was a hidden gem. We honestly wished we had more time there. Our time in the Masai Mara was unforgettable, especially the hot air balloon ride — truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Although our time in Amboseli was short, it was still incredibly rewarding with numerous elephant sightings and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
I wholeheartedly recommend Hyrax Safaris — their service quality, well-curated hotel selections (even the mid-range options were fantastic), and of course, our phenomenal guide Ben.
Having traveled to over 35 countries, I can confidently say this trip ranks among the very best. It will remain etched in our memories forever.

Amazing Experience
Having looked through so many different safari companies I am so happy we chose Hyrax for our 5 day honeymoon safari.
Rose could not be more helpful with our requests. Price was very reasonable and great value for money. Ben our guide for the duration was amazing from the moment he collected us from the airport. He has extensive knowledge of the animals and the area and would always do everything to get the best views.
I highly recommend Hyrax Safaris, if you are looking at this company as an option then just book, you won’t be disappointed.

Swift communication and friendly staff.
We had a great experience with Hyrax Safaris. Irene was our coordinator and she did a great job in communicating swiftly and efficiently.
Our guide was Antony - he was punctual, kind and patient. He did a good job with the game drives. We stayed at the Ashnil Camp. The camp was very impressive with well equipped and comfortable tents, amazing food (including Indian options) and extremely friendly and kind staff. Thank you Irene and Antony - our overall experience at Maasai Mara was very memorable. I would definitely recommend going with Hyrax Safaris.

Incredible visit to Masai Mara organized by Hyrax Safari
Hyrax arranged a personalized itinerary for me and my wife. We were picked up from our hotel in Nairobi and brought to Wilson Airport for a short 50 minute flight to Masai Mara. At the airstrip in Masai Mara, we were met by Benson!
Benson was an absolutely amazing host. He is incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife, knows his way around, is deeply connected to a network of guides who share location information about sitings, and is able to spot animals far away and guide us to them. Benson is also a lovely person, and it was easy to spend 6 hours a day riding around the reserve with him.
Hyrax gave us choices of lodging options within our budget. We selected Ashnil Mara, whose location on the river was a treat. From our table in the dining room, we could see and hear Hippos and Crocodiles at every meal. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable and the food buffet was plentiful and varied.
I highly recommend a visit to Masai Mara where you are sure to see the Big 5. Hyrax delivered everything they promised and made things simple.

Wonderful team on the field during the hike but very bad experience regarding the service in Nairobi
I did the 5 day Mount Kenya trek (Chogoria down Sirimon). The team on the field (guide, cooker and porters) were very good and thanks to them it was a great experience, with wonderful landscapes, and amazing service from the team.
But the organisation and quality of service (equipment provided and logistic/transport from Nairobi to Mount Kenya) received from the company and their intermediate in Nairobi were very bad. Despite the high price paid, they wanted me to take a local public transport (a matatu from the matatu station a 15 minute walk from the office in the city center). When arrived in the matatu and when I understood it was not a vehicle provided by the company but just a local public transport, I just refused to stay in the matatu (unsafe transport and it was empty, had to wait for it to be filled with passengers, and how long would have last the travel with many stops, etc.). I asked for a refund or another solution. My tour was supposed to be a private one but I had been notified that I will use a shared vehicle with two other clients, and I was OK with that... But actually it was just a matatu without any other clients... Finally they provided me a car with a driver and the travel was OK even if a big waste of time before departure.
But the tent provided was very small, much smaller and cheaper that all the other tents I saw in Mount kenya, provided by other companies to their clients. And the mattress I was given was too small (1,60 m but I am 1,80 tall, so the feet touched the cold soil, not professional). I should have checked their mattress and taken my own mattress, not theirs. Other point, before arriving in the NP we stopped in Chogoria for lunch. It was a very cheap restaurant (no problem with that if food is OK) but it was not good.
At the beginning of the trek, after the intermediate let us in chogoria, the local team seemed not to be aware of the itinerary i had paid for (5 days whose 4 days climbing and the last day for the final climb and the going down, itinerary precisely described in the written offer). They wanted/described to me another itinerary (apparently 3 days up, 2 days down, staying in other campsites, not the same itinerary). Fortunately I had previously checked the map of Mount Kenya, the names and the locations of the different campsites and routes and so I understood it was note the good itinerary and I insisted to make the right itinerary. The local team accepted and it was finally a wonderful route and trek, with a great service from the team. But apparently the intermediate or the company didn't give the right information to the local team about the itinerary, which could have led to a less scenic trek (and more difficult for acclimatisation).
At the end of the trek, I was given a shared vehicle with other clients to come back to Nairobi so it was better than a matatu but I had to wait more than 1,30 hour the two other clients, and they were prioritised for the drop off in Nairobi. Apparently they were clients of the intermediate not of the company. So despite the high price paid, it was a several hours waste of time for me to get back to my hotel in Nairobi.
I clearly don't recommend this company (and this intermediate) for Mount Kenya treks. But I am very grateful to the local independent team for this wonderful trek.

An unforgettable experience
We went for a three day tour: Nairobi-Amboseli-Tsavo West, and Dropoff in Diani Beach. The accommodations were luxurious, very friendly personnel and amazing food. Special compliments to our guide Kasaine Senei. He made sure we`d manage to see all the animals on our list, and knew everything about the parks and its animals. Would recommend to everyone!

Irene was very interactive as we hit a few speed bumps and she helped resolve quickly
Although we didn't get all the big 5, and that has nothing to do with the driver nor planners, it was good. This was my third safari, first in the Mara and everything went off without a hitch. Vehicle was good and Eric our driver was fantastic!!! He seemed to sense where we could go off the primary road and get great closeups with a herd of elephants by ourselves and also to sense where the lioness and her cubs WOULD go so he parked us there and we waited for the premium location rather than being clustered with the other vehicles with a lesser view and following them along... Thanks Eric!
