Five day budget safari, which was great value for money, apart from day five.
5/5

We were picked up from our hotel on the first morning before heading to the Axis Safari office for final payment. We were on the road with our group by 8:30am heading for Masai Mara. We arrived at our camp at lunch time, had lunch, before an evening game drive which was brilliant. Day two was a full days game drive in Masai Mara, before staying at the camp again. We saw four of the "big five" in the Masai Mara (All except Rhinos). The camp was basic, but more than adequate for a budget Safari. We saw white and black Rhinos in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Our guide, Peter Kapino, was brilliant, with extensive knowledge of wildlife on the safari, as well as cultural knowledge when passing through the industrial and farming towns/villages. He was very approachable and answered all of our questions.

In terms of the additional activities, the Masai Village visit was worth the $20 to experience their culture and traditions, the boat ride in Lake Naivasha was not worth $20 extra (we didn't go to the island, so cannot comment on that), and the bike riding in Hells Gate National Park was good fun, we really got on with our group, so it was nice making new friends as the safari went on. Only real criticism would be that we felt our last day was cut short, two people in our party of eight were on a seven day safari, so were heading for Amboseli National Park, after dropping us back in Nairobi. This meant that day five effectively finished at 11am, with lunch at 11:15 (we weren't really hungry), and back to Nairobi just before 2pm. I suppose the operator was unable to make up a full car with a five day group, but was a bit of a shame.

Peter Kapino is a great and experienced guide, made a great effort to show us best sightings
5/5

Trip was amazing. We did a 5 day safari and Peter was a very experienced guide that make an additional effort to help us see the best spots of the parks we went to. Communication was fast and good with the company, they picked up at our desired drop-off point. The meals were good, especially in the first campsite, the staff always very kind and helpful. Totally worth it, the budget version was great and did not feel budget at all!

Amazing experience
5/5

The experience was amazing! We were able to see the Big Five very quickly, and the guide put in a lot of effort to make sure we had this experience. He was always kind and kept asking if we were satisfied. It was our first safari, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

The experience with Axis was great. The communications during the booking process was smooth. Tabitha answered all our questions timely. We had the opportunity to choose accommodations and cost option that fit our need the best. Our guide/driver Peter Kapino is very experienced. He is very knowledgeable about animals and has a great eye for finding them. He made sure that we had a great safari experience.

A well organised safari
4/5

We had a good trip with Axis Africa, everything was well organised from the first hotel pick up to the days we were out doing activities. Guide, Peter Kapino, was very knowledgeable, friendly and ensured we had a good time. He tried hard to find all animals whilst we were out on safari and answered all our questions, both about the animals and generally about life in Kenya! We felt safe at all times during our trip.

There were a couple of negatives of the trip. Firstly, a few of the optional activities were a little more expensive than we were told or had hidden costs which were not stated in the description. Secondly, the last day was very rushed, when in Hell's gate it felt as though we were being rushed along and didn't have time to 'explore' as described, we did the minimum not exploring the caves etc. Following that visit, we were taken for lunch at 11:30am before driving back to Nairobi, although we had been told we would end the day around 4pm. This 5th day was realistically only half a day and it was a shame to end on such a rushed and disappointing note when we were expecting a whole day of activity. It seemed this was because another couple on the shared trip were staying another day and and travelling to amboselli and so our day had to be rushed to accommodate them, which I felt was unfair to us. I don't believe this was the guides fault as I understand this would be a long day for him, but the other couples trip should not have impacted ours.

The trip seemed generally good value for money, although it seemed other similar priced trips did include the day 4 boat ride price, which this didn't. And the very limited final day reduced the value for money.

Great trip
5/5

I had an incredible 4-day trip to the Maasai Mara, made unforgettable by our guide, Jack. From the moment we set out, Jack’s knowledge of the park, its wildlife, and the local culture shone through. He was not just a driver, but a walking encyclopaedia who knew exactly where to go and when, which meant we got the very best out of our time there.

We were lucky enough to see both the Big Five and the so-called Ugly Five, which was beyond anything I expected. Watching lions on the hunt, elephants moving gracefully in family herds, and even spotting a rhino up close was awe-inspiring. Jack’s sharp eyes meant we didn’t miss a thing, and he always had fascinating stories to share about the animals’ behaviour and the wider ecosystem.

The tour itself was well-paced, with plenty of time to soak in the landscapes, from the endless golden plains to the winding rivers full of hippos and crocodiles. The four days felt perfectly balanced between adventure, learning, and pure wonder.

Overall, this was the trip of a lifetime. If you want a guide who is both knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the Mara, Jack is the person to ask for.
