Thank you Apidi (Kevin) for a magical experience!
We booked a 4 day Masai Mara -> Nakuru trip.
This was a great taster tour for first time safari-goers. Axis made it easy from start to finish.. we were given choices on lodges and other selections - We opted for a private safari tour but you can select to go in groups.
Our tour guide Apidi (Kevin) made the tour so seamless for us. He was truly exceptional from start to end. He spoke to us about tailoring the itinerary to suit us and our pace, and he had such a great understanding and respect for the animals which meant we were able to see some amazing sightings - including a confrontation between hyenas and lions. His knowledge of the animals was in-depth which made it an incredible learning experience. He was very personable and answered all of our many questions! He made the tour what it was!
You spend a lot of time in the truck driving around and we felt very safe with Kevin - he was very responsible and thinking of our comfort the whole time.. we really appreciated it!
The Masai Mara is spectacular, and we were lucky to experience it during quieter periods with less vehicles around. We came with little expectation and left with magical memories.
We chose the following optional extra activities:
- Masai Village
- Naivasha boat ride and walking tour
Masai village: it was not to our taste. This is very much set up for tourists, and whilst the snapshot into their living was interesting, you are very much paraded around to give money or buy things. There is an entrance fee of $20 per person and you’re there for about 25-30 mins… it’s all very much a script on repeat. If you do want to see their way of life, just adjust your expectations - I would skip this and knew as soon as we walked up that this was a tourist trap. It was the least worthwhile part of the trip.
Naivasha: this was 100% worth it! We saw eagles, birds and hippos on the boat ride which was a completely different experience from seeing Hippos from afar. We then had an amazing walking tour where we got so so close to giraffes and grazing animals.
Nakuru: it was incredible to see white & black rhinos and the Rothschild’s giraffes. However, the rising water levels has impacted the park quite significantly. Pelicans thriving but flamingos diminishing. It’s eery to see so many dead trees and roads being taken under. Grazing animals do well here as there are less predators but I’m not sure how much longer the park will be accessible.
Lodges:
We stayed at the Jambo Mara & Sarova.
Jambo Mara: what they done well is hire a really great chef who is able to cook from a variety of cuisines well. He is also so friendly and bubbly.. his service was flawless! The lodges themselves are flat pack from China and you can tell. They’re also worn with damaged furniture and ripped bedding. We really only slept and ate here for a couple of nights.
Sarova: terrible. They are trying too hard and can’t deliver. The pool, gym and spa were out of use, rooms were dated and the food was not good. The waiter also took off with the change for our drinks and we then later got questioned about whether we had even paid at all at check out - would recommend avoiding this place.
This doesn’t reflect on Axis at all, but I would just do the research and see what budget allows on the accommodation.
The only recommendation I would give Axis: when on long game drives, the lunches should be refrigerated. One of us got sick from eating a wrap, when these boxes are sitting in a truck for 6+ hours at this heat it’s a bacteria breeding ground.
For travellers: pack some protein bars as back up!
Overall: I would highly recommend Axis, great value! They were really easy to book with and so accommodating. For our next trip I would do a custom tour and spend the time in the Mara for longer and covering more areas… but this was a good starting point to see if we liked it and we would book again!

Unforgettable wildlife encounters across Kenya’s most beautiful national parks
We had a fantastic experience with this safari organizer in Kenya. Everything was extremely well organized from start to finish, with smooth logistics, clear communication, and a well-planned itinerary that made the whole trip feel effortless and enjoyable.
A very special thanks goes to our driver, Joshua. He was consistently kind, flexible, and a genuinely great companion throughout the journey. His driving was excellent and made us feel safe at all times, even on long and sometimes challenging roads. He also shared a lot of useful information about the parks, wildlife, and local life, which really added depth to the experience.
What stood out most was his incredible ability to spot animals. He had a sharp eye and great instinct, and because of that we were lucky enough to see the “Big Five” as well as countless other animals up close. It truly felt like expert-level guiding.
We did the 5-day tour covering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Lake Naivasha. Each park offered something completely different, which made the itinerary feel very well balanced. The Maasai Mara National Reserve was definitely the highlight and the main reason to do this trip, but both Nakuru and Naivasha added their own unique landscapes and wildlife experiences.
The 5-day format is highly recommended. It not only increases the chances of seeing a wide range of animals, but also gives you time to enjoy the stunning Kenyan countryside along the way, which is an experience in itself.
Overall, this was a top-tier safari experience that we would strongly recommend to any nature or wildlife lover.

A wonderful once in a life time experience
I had a wonderful trip with axis africa i booked the 6 days safari trip and its really worth it. Roger the guide is really experienced and knowledgable and fun too, he made us spot the big 5 many times through out the trip he’s also very helpful. If you’re booking that trip ask for roger you wint regret it. However, the only thing that was off for me is the masai village visit its optional visit and probably has nothing to do with axis safari but this village is a scam they make you pay more than the mentioned price and they sell you fake stuff under the name of helping children, they lied in so many things and tried to scam . Masai people are way nicer and truthful than this village i guess this village is not authentic they just made it up for the show and money. Overall i really recommend the 6 days trip with axis safari they are the best! Definitely will come back again!

Collin was an excellent tour guide that made the experience very fun and enjoyable.
The tour was great value for money, we made amazing memories and our tour guide did not cut any corners. Collin was very informed and answered all questions. He was very accommodating and made sure each couple in the group got the experience they wanted.
Unforgettable experience with Richard
We had an unforgettable safari experience with Richard from Axis Africa Safaris. From the very beginning, he was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about wildlife and Kenya.
Thanks to Richard, we had incredible sightings throughout the trip — including lions up close, giraffes, elephants, and so much more. He always positioned the Land Cruiser perfectly for photos and never rushed us during sightings. His knowledge of animal behavior and the reserve really made the experience feel special.
He was also extremely punctual, patient, and genuinely committed to making sure we had the best possible safari experience every single day.
The balance between wildlife, scenery, culture, and comfort was excellent, and Richard played a huge role in that. We came away with amazing memories and thousands of photos we’ll keep forever.
Highly recommended for anyone planning a Maasai Mara safari — thank you Richard and Axis Africa Safaris!

Exceptional trip, agency and guide !!!
My family and I (my parents and my two adult brothers) went on a 6-day safari in Kenya with AxisAfrica Safaris in May 2026, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience. This time of year was perfect for us because we prefer destinations that are not too crowded. Every lodge and park felt peaceful and relaxing, which suited our family perfectly.
Before the safari began, the owner of the agency, Cynthia, welcomed us alongside our guide, Peter Kanipo. They were both incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming, making us comfortable as we were about to discover a completely new country.
I especially have to mention how lucky we were to have Peter Kanipo as our guide. His kindness, knowledge, and above all his passion for Kenya’s wildlife made this first safari the best holiday we could ever have imagined. He was always attentive to every question we had and answered everything with great detail.
Since the guide is also the driver, I also want to highlight how safely and carefully Peter drove throughout the entire trip, despite the long journeys and sometimes very bumpy roads. This is such an important detail, especially when drives can last 5 to 6 hours… or more.
The agency organized everything for us, game drives, activities, accommodations, and meals, which allowed us to fully enjoy every single moment without having to worry about organization. During our trip, we visited Maasai Mara National Reserve, Crescent Island, and Amboseli National Park, all of which were absolutely breathtaking.
A huge thank you again to Peter Kanipo for being such a wonderful, funny, passionate, and caring guide. We truly could not have asked for a better first safari experience in Kenya.
