A Considered Review of Morning Star Tours: A Flawless Tanzanian Safari, September 2026
As a seasoned traveller who has undertaken numerous bespoke expeditions across Africa and beyond, I approach operator reviews with a degree of circumspection. It is rare that a company exceeds expectations on every metric that matters to a discerning client. Morning Star Tours, however, did precisely that during our recent private safari in Tanzania.
From the outset, communication was exemplary: prompt, precise, and entirely free of the obfuscation one sometimes encounters in this industry. Quotations were transparent, with no hidden supplements or last-minute adjustments. The itinerary was tailored to our specifications, and the inclusion of a bush flight—a decision the team helped us evaluate carefully—eliminated what would otherwise have been a full day of arduous driving. Such practical counsel reflects a genuine understanding of a traveller's time and comfort.
The lodges and camps selected were consistently well judged, and the logistical execution was seamless. For a trip of this nature, however, the guide is the decisive variable. In this regard, we were exceptionally fortunate to have Jackson as our driver-guide.
I do not use the word "perfect" lightly. Jackson is, quite simply, the finest guide I have encountered on the continent. His ability to locate wildlife was remarkable—swift, methodical, and seemingly intuitive. His commentary was erudite and engaging, delivered with a depth of botanical and zoological knowledge that surprised even our well-read party. He is also excellent company: witty, considerate, and unfailingly attentive without ever being intrusive. His vehicle was immaculately maintained and cleaned daily—a small detail that speaks volumes about professional pride.
It is largely due to Jackson's expertise that we completed the Big Five and the so-called "Ugly Five" within a single trip—a feat I had regarded as somewhat aspirational.
On cost: excluding international airfare from China, our per-person expenditure was approximately USD 3,500 for a ten-day, nine-night fully customised private safari. When one considers the standard of accommodation, the exclusivity of the vehicle, the inclusion of a bush flight, and the calibre of guiding, this represents outstanding value. Comparable itineraries are frequently priced considerably higher.
Morning Star Tours is, in my assessment, a thoroughly professional and conscientious operation. I recommend them without reservation, and I would request Jackson by name.

Very Skilled Guides
As I mentioned in my previous review about my Ol-Pejeta leg of my trip, Winnie did an amazing job helping us craft our custom itinerary and constantly checked in on us throughout the trip. We felt we were in safe hands throughout the whole experience.
For my Masai Mara leg of the trip, we had Timothy (Tim) as a guide. Tim was very knowledgeable of the reserve, the wildlife and the flora. We learned so much from him. He had an incredibly good eye to spot animals hidden from plain sight. He accommodated all of our requests and was able to show us all the wildlife we wanted to see. On one of our first game drives, he somehow managed to incredibly find us lions, a cheetah and a leopard within the span of an hour. It was obvious he knew the area very well. He was also very friendly and fun to be around.

Incredible Guides
Dominic was our guide for Ol Pejeta, and he was excellent. He is accommodating and taught us so much about the all animals we got to experience together. Dominic is very attentive to his guests, easy going, and his passion for wildlife made our first safari experience so special.
Tim was an amazing guide for our Masai Mara adventure. He is incredibly knowledgeable about all the animals. He is kind, attentive, and a very skilled driver. He helped us see so many animals and showed us so many beautiful birds.
I’d highly recommend him as a guide.

Amazing Anniversary Safari!
We wanted to do something really special for our fiftieth wedding anniversary, and we contacted three safari providers via Safaribookings. From the first communication back from Joysharon at Morningstar, they impressed us most. Joysharon presented us with itinerary options, clearly explained costs, and answered for us numerous questions we had planning our first safari. The itinerary we decided on was two nights in Nairobi (Argyle), two nights at Amboseli (Kibo), one night at Naivasha (Sopa), one night at Nakuru (Sopa), and two nights at Masai Mara (Zebra), giving us ample acclimation time from our long travel from the United States and a perfect mix of traditional camps and resorts. Joysharon kept contact with us via WhatsApp and emails thorough the entire planning process, and then once on the safari she checked to ensure that we arrived safely at our hotel in Nairobi, checked on us every evening to ensure our expectations had been met, ensured we arrived back at airport with no issues at conclusion of our safari, and even checked to make sure we arrived back home. She obviously contacted our camps and resorts in advance, and as a result we were surprised with room upgrades, decorated beds, and staff singing and celebration cakes that made our fiftieth anniversary even more memorable.
Our assigned driver and safari guide was Gabriel. He was courteous, pleasant, and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. He has excellent driving skills on the challenging Kenya roads. He made extra washrooms stops for us, modified the schedule of activities to give us additional rest times, and even went and bought a step stool when he noticed us struggling some to get in and out of the jeep. In addition, Gabirel knew just where to go the maximize our wildlife encounters, often being the first or only vehicle for animal viewing. He took care of all of our arrangements, tickets, etc, and we just had to sit back and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime.
We highly recommend Morningstar Safaris, and suggest you ask personally for Joysharon as your travel consultant and Gabriel as your driver and guide.
