Matumi is the best in the bushveld!
My wife and I frequent Hoedspruit regularly for work, and safari with Matumi is a must every trip we take.
Their staff really make you feel at home right away, and their knowledge of the bush is unparalleled.
Besides having an incredible time, we always learn so many new things each tour we take.
I can not recommend Matumi enough. Whether you are a first timer or been many times to the South African bush, the professionalism and pride they take in their job is remarkable

Exceptionally brilliant
Our African safari arranged by Matumi Destinations is something our family will talk about forever.
As Australians travelling with teenage daughters, we weren’t sure who would enjoy it most - but it turns out, all of us. Our kids absolutely loved the thrill of tracking animals from our open game vehicle almost as much as seeing them up close.
Our guide Gert was outstanding - friendly, easy to talk to, and incredibly knowledgeable. Every time the vehicle stopped, we learned something new, whether it was about the Big 5 or the tiniest creatures. Learning about the Open Plan system, where vast pridelands and surrounding reserves connect into one massive borderless wilderness, really brought home how special it is to see animals roaming freely.
Gert spoke to us about the lodges’ and operators’ efforts to prevent rhino poaching, and after seeing these majestic animals up close, it's easy to understand why they're worth every bit of energy protecting.
There are many moments will stay with us forever: the smell of the bush air in the open vehicle, eating biltong while watching a lion rest under a leadwood tree, hearing an elephant flap it's ears as it walks past, or heading out on night drives armed just with a spotlight (slightly scary, but very exciting - especially when a buffalo’s eyes reflected back at us in the darkness) are only a few.
Our evenings were pure magic too. We'd sit around a log fire under a sky full of stars, listening to the sounds of the river, the bark of wild dog not too far away, and sleep in a five-star retreat right inside the reserve.
Matumi and Gert, our own guide, gave us experiences we’ll never forget from the moment he picked us up at the airport until he dropped us off again.
Now that I'm back in Australia, the African bush seems like a world away but I have no doubt that we'll return - just to revisit one of the memories we made on our incredible African adventure would make it worth it.
