Exceptional service
5/5

eXplore Plus arranged the most phenomenal tour for us. Their online information sessions were invaluable in helping us decide on which tour to take. Once the decision was made they were extremely efficient in getting everything organised with detailed information about the area and accommodation.
Our tour was extremely well thought out and planned and our guide was excellent and extremely experienced which made a real difference in the manner in which we got to experience not only the river crossings, but the entire Serengeti.
With some airline challenges Rika and Bianca went above and beyond getting us home on time.
They clearly have a very good understanding of the area and can provide an exceptional experience at whichever level their clients request.

Nice arrangement and excellent landscape
5/5

Gorilla $800 permit, but absolutely worth it. The day started brutally early at 5 AM, though the actual hike didn't start until after 9 AM.I was assigned to a group.

Trekking together and helping each other spot the gorillas was incredibly fun.

Once we found them, we spent an hour with the gorillas. We saw two silverbacks: one was sitting and eating, while the other just lay there. I got within 2 meters of one, and it just glanced at me and went back to sleep. The group had everything from 2-to-3-month-old babies to teenagers and adults—basically the whole family tree!

Overall, an unforgettable, hilarious, and awe-inspiring trip. 🦍✨

responsible

For the same itinerary and hotels, Rioba's quote offered the best value for money. They also provided a cost breakdown, which many local ground operators do not supply. Our only concern at the time was the relatively few reviews, so we weren’t sure if they were reliable. But Donant were the most responsive in communication, so we decided to take a chance. Fortunately, the whole trip went very smoothly! We also had an amazing guide, Martin. He would ask in advance what animals we wanted to see and always found the perfect viewing spots. He could predict what would happen next based on the animals’ behaviour, and then shared lots of facts with us.

Wonderful Safari
5/5

Wonderful Tanzania Safari!

From August 24 to September 3, 2026, we went on an amazing safari in Tanzania with Luwai Safari. We were a small group of four people travelling in our own Land Cruiser, with a dedicated guide/driver who looked after us full-time. This meant that we could simply concentrate on observing the animals and enjoying the beautiful scenery throughout the entire trip.

In short: it was absolutely fantastic and truly exciting!

Luwai planned the entire tour together with us, taking our ideas and wishes into account, and then organized everything perfectly. Our guide, Silas, was an exceptionally attentive, considerate and highly competent travel companion. He took care of us “like a mother,” always responded to our wishes and explained everything to us in great detail in English. He also developed a strong personal ambition to show us as many different animal species as possible — and he succeeded!

We visited Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, travelling all the way to the Mara River and the Kenyan border. We saw virtually all of the “important” animals, including rhinos, cheetahs and even a python, as well as eagles, vultures and marabou storks.

Almost all of the animals also had young with them, so we were able to admire lion cubs, cheetah cubs, leopard cubs, elephant calves and young giraffes — often from a remarkably close distance.

The accommodations booked by Luwai (tented lodges) were well equipped, very clean, had comfortable beds and offered good food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our safari and would do it exactly the same way again at any time. We can highly recommend Luwai Tanzania Safaris and give them our absolute highest rating!

Osward & Africa Merit Safaris: real Africa, real people, safari of a lifetime & zero stress !!
5/5

The kind of operator that makes you feel like a guest, not a client. From the very first message, Osward and the Africa Merit Safaris team were responsive, clear and reassuring.
Every detail of our 2-week trip : safari logistics, Zanzibar transfers, accommodation, was handled seamlessly and at a fair price. They recommended Serengeti & Ngorongoro, and we saw the Big Five. Absolutely no regrets !! it was beyond anything we expected. Reliable from day one, and the experience itself was extraordinary. Osward even welcomed us personally, which says everything about the human touch this team brings. If you're planning Tanzania, stop looking. This is the one.

Knowledgeable guide but disappointing service and communication
3/5

We booked a private safari with Beyond the Plains, and our guide was Douglas. He was very knowledgeable about wildlife and answered our questions thoroughly. However, several aspects of the experience left us disappointed.
Before our arrival, the company told us that our guide would be waiting at the airport arrivals exit holding a sign with our names. Despite receiving our flight information in advance, the promised pickup did not go as expected. We could not find Douglas and were kept waiting. We later learned that he had apparently been in the parking lot. We never saw a sign with our names, even inside the vehicle.
During our highway journey, Douglas was involved in a road accident while driving us. Afterward, we had to stop at a vehicle dealership, which reduced our time on safari. At the time, he offered neither an apology nor a clear explanation of what had happened or why the stop was necessary. He apologized only after we reported the incident to the safari company.
Douglas told us he had more than ten years of experience. While his wildlife knowledge was a strength, his manner sometimes came across as overly proud of his experience. We did not feel involved in planning the game drives. He answered questions when asked, but rarely proactively suggested areas to explore, explained his plans, or discussed options based on sighting information from other guides. We would have appreciated more initiative and communication.
During game drives, he drove very slowly, and other safari vehicles frequently passed us. We understand that slow driving can help with safety and spotting wildlife. However, without an explanation of his approach, we were often unsure of the plan or whether we were making the most of our time.
There were also two occasions involving additional passengers whom Douglas described as friends. We agreed to the first person’s joining us. However, we did not give our consent for the second person to join, yet that person rode with us for approximately five hours from our hotel to Nairobi. We had booked a private safari and expected the vehicle to be exclusively for our party. Having an additional passenger for such a long journey without our consent did not match that expectation.
During this journey, the second passenger threw a plastic bottle out of the vehicle. Douglas said nothing in response. We were shocked by the littering and disappointed that our safari guide did not speak up, particularly given the importance of protecting the environment and wildlife.
Overall, we appreciated Douglas’s wildlife knowledge, but knowledge alone did not make up for the shortcomings in communication and service. The airport pickup, the handling of the accident, the additional passenger without our consent, and the response to littering fell short of our expectations for a private safari.
