South Africa Map
Visitors from abroad usually fly into South Africa at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. From here, Federal Airlines operates a daily shuttle flight to Timbavati Nature Reserve, as well as offering charter flights.
Alternatively, you can take a connecting flight from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport (HDS). From here, it’s only 13km/8mi on a good surfaced road to Timbavati’s main gate, and most lodges and camps can organize a transfer.
Renting a car in Johannesburg and driving to the reserve is another option. Timbavati is on the R40 near Hoedspruit, west of Kruger National Park. The 450km/280mi drive usually takes 5 to 6 hours*.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
