South Africa Map
Timbavati Nature Reserve lies in Mpumalanga province in the northeast of South Africa, and borders Kruger National Park. Most overseas visitors fly into South Africa at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. From here, daily shuttle flights head directly to Timbavati. Renting a car is another option; the 450km/280mi drive from Johannesburg takes 5 to 6 hours*.
Alternatively, catch a connecting flight from O.R. Tambo to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport (HDS), which is only 13km/8mi on a good surfaced road from Timbavati’s main gate.
Coming from Cape Town or the Garden Route, domestic flights connect Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and George Airport (GRJ) to Eastgate Airport. Most lodges and camps in Timbavati can organize an airport transfer.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
