The Shira Route is one of the most scenic routes on Mount Kilimanjaro, approaching the mountain from the west across the spectacular Shira Plateau. Starting at a relatively high elevation, the route offers breathtaking views, diverse landscapes, and a less crowded trekking experience. It joins the Machame Route near Shira Camp and follows the southern circuit to the summit at Uhuru Peak. The route is best suited to trekkers with good fitness and some prior altitude experience.
