Tarangire National Park, approximately 120km (75mi) southwest of Arusha, boasts one of the highest concentrations of African elephants per square kilometer in Tanzania. The park is named after the Tarangire River, a vital Dry season refuge for wildlife. Visitors will see a variety of threatened and endangered species, birdlife, ebony trees, African wild dogs, cheetahs, pythons and elephants. Various antelopes, such as the lesser and greater kudu, Beisa oryx and gerenuk, are often seen.
