Ts’ehlanyane National Park is located at high altitude and has a temperate climate. Nights are cold and days are cool. The weather can change rapidly and warm clothing is a necessity throughout the year. There is a Wet season and a Dry season and these correspond with the southern hemisphere summer and winter (opposite to the seasons in Europe).

Dry Season April to September – Winter

It doesn't rain very often in winter. The days are usually sunny but cool and the nights are very cold.

  • April – Summer comes to an end. Rainfall diminishes and it gets cooler. The average daytime temperature is 15°C/59°F.
  • May, June, July & August – These months are cold. Temperatures average 12°C/54°F during the day and -1°C/30°F at night and in the early morning. It is dry and it hardly ever rains.
  • September – It warms up a little and the first rains bring a welcome respite from the dry winter months. Daily averages range from 4°C/39°F at night to 13°C/55°F during the day.

Wet Season October to March – Summer

It regularly rains throughout summer. Afternoon thunderstorms are common but it can rain at any time, so be prepared. Mornings are usually lovely and clear.

  • October – Temperatures range from 6°C/43°F in the morning to 15°C/59°F in the afternoon. All the dust from the Dry season washes away once the rains have settled in.
  • November, December, January & February – Daytime temperatures are around 18°C/64°F. Expect regular rain and be prepared when going out. Rain usually comes in the afternoon.
  • March – It rains a bit less and skies are often clear. Be prepared, though, for afternoon showers. Daytime temperatures reach around 18°C/64°F.
