South Africa Map
Augrabies Falls National Park lies in the thinly populated Northern Cape province, 125km/78mi (2 hours’ drive*) west of Upington. It is mostly visited as a destination, often in combination with Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
The park lies about 900km/560mi west of Johannesburg (11 hours’ drive) and 875km/544mi north of Cape Town (9 to 10 hours’ drive). These cities are served respectively by O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT), the two main hubs for international flights to South Africa. Direct flights connect O.R. Tambo to Upington International Airport (UTN).
Car rental can be arranged at all the above airports. Main roads inside the park can be driven in an ordinary car, but some tracks are for 4x4 vehicles only.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
