Most visitors to Kenya come through Nairobi, which is one of the largest transport hubs on the continent. International flights arrive in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), 15km/9mi southeast of Nairobi.

Lake Bogoria National Reserve is 250km/155mi from Nairobi and the drive takes at least 5 hours*. Bogoria is mostly visited as a side trip from Nakuru (about 3 hours*). You can either join a safari in Nairobi or rent a car and visit Lake Bogoria independently.

The southern entrance to the reserve is 38km/24mi north of Nakuru, although the track in from the southern gate can be problematic at best and impassable after rains at worst. A 4WD is essential if you’re coming in this way. The sealed road from Nakuru to the northern entrance (which provides much easier vehicle access, even in a 2WD) is 150km/93mi.

There are no domestic flights to Lake Bogoria or Lake Nakuru. Charter flights between reserves may be possible and are typically organized by your tour operator.

*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
