Safety

In our opinion, there are no safety concerns when traveling inside Camdeboo National Park. All South Africa’s parks and reserves are virtually crime free. As is the case all over the world, crime issues tend to be in cities. Normal precautions should be taken when visiting urban centers on a self-drive safari (see ‘Cities & Other Urban Areas: Safety Precautions’ below).

For up-to-date information about safety in South Africa in general, please read the government travel advisories (see the ‘Safety & Security – South Africa’ link below).

Malaria-Free & Vaccinations

Antimalarials aren’t necessary to visit Camdeboo as malaria isn’t present here. There is a very small risk, however, when visiting the eastern part of the country during the wet summer months, so please plan accordingly. Several vaccinations are recommended before traveling to South Africa. You’ll get current advice from your travel clinic.

Wildlife Viewing

The park’s main attraction is its spectacular scenery, not the wildlife. There is a small wildlife viewing section, but very few dangerous animals are present. Wildlife viewing is very safe here, but please stay inside your car as there are some buffalo around. Please also take notice of the ‘Wildlife Viewing Safety Precautions’ below.
