Upon arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo. Take time to settle in after your journey and enjoy the first impressions of Madagascar’s capital, affectionately called “Tana.” Depending on your arrival time, you may explore a few local sights or markets nearby. Your guide will brief you on the upcoming adventure through the eastern rainforests and lake regions.

Antananarivo to Palmarium reserve (Pangalanes Canal)

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive east toward the Pangalanes Canal region. The journey takes you through lush highlands and tropical forests before reaching the lakeside village where you will board a boat to Palmarium. The boat transfer offers a glimpse of local life along the canal and its tranquil landscapes. Upon arrival, check into your lakeside lodge and take a short guided walk to discover the surrounding flora and fauna. End the day with a briefing for the next day’s exploration.

Exploring Palmarium Reserve

Spend the morning discovering the Palmarium private reserve with your local guide. This area is home to a variety of lemurs, including black-and-white ruffed lemurs, crowned lemurs, and the famous aye-aye. Learn about the reserve’s unique ecosystem and ongoing conservation initiatives. In the afternoon, relax by the lake, go canoeing, or visit nearby fishing villages for a glimpse into local culture. After dinner, join an optional nocturnal walk to search for rare and elusive night species.

Palmarium to Andasibe, with Optional Night walk

After breakfast, return by boat to the mainland and continue the drive west toward Andasibe. The route passes through tropical vegetation, villages, and markets, giving a deeper view of Malagasy rural life. Arrive in Andasibe by late afternoon and check into your rainforest lodge. After settling in, your guide will brief you on the next day’s excursions. In the evening, take an optional guided night walk in the forest to spot nocturnal animals such as mouse lemurs and chameleons.

Analamazaotra Reserve and Peyreiras Visit - Return to Antananarivo

Start the morning with a visit to Analamazaotra Reserve, part of the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, to search for the famous Indri indri, the largest living lemur species. Your guide will share insights about the region’s diverse flora, fauna, and conservation efforts. In the afternoon, stop at the Peyrieras Reptile Reserve to see chameleons, frogs, and butterflies up close. Continue the drive back to Antananarivo, enjoying scenic views and local life along the road. Arrive in the capital in the late afternoon and check into your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Departure from Antananarivo
