Day 1

Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, followed by a scenic drive north through Kenya’s fertile central highlands. You will pass tea and coffee plantations, rural villages, and the slopes of Mount Kenya, with a brief stop at the equator crossing at Nanyuki for photographs and refreshments. Continuing north into the arid Samburu region, you will arrive at Samburu National Reserve around midday. After checking in at your luxury tented camp, enjoy a freshly prepared lunch and some time to relax. In the late afternoon, depart for your first game drive, exploring the reserve’s striking semi-desert landscape, acacia woodlands, and riverine forest along the Ewaso Nyiro River. This drive offers excellent chances to see elephants, lions, leopards, crocodiles, and the unique “Samburu Special Five.” Return to the camp at sunset for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

After an early breakfast, set out for a morning game drive when wildlife activity is at its peak. Your guide will track animal movements along the riverbanks, where predators often hunt and elephants gather to drink and bathe. You will explore both the open plains and rocky outcrops, with opportunities to observe giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and a wide variety of bird species. Mid-morning, enjoy a short break before continuing the drive. Return to the camp for lunch and relaxation during the heat of the day. In the late afternoon, head out again for another extended game drive, focusing on predator sightings and scenic viewpoints. As the sun sets, the landscape takes on dramatic colors, providing excellent photographic opportunities. Dinner and overnight will be at your camp.

Day 3

Samburu to Olpejeta Conservancy

Samburu to Olpejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, check out and depart Samburu, driving south through the scenic Laikipia Plateau toward Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The journey offers changing landscapes from dry savannah to greener plains, arriving at the conservancy in time for lunch. After check-in and lunch at your camp, enjoy some leisure time before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is renowned for its exceptional wildlife density and conservation success, including the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa. During the drive, you may encounter elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and predators such as lions and cheetahs. A visit to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary may be included, offering insight into primate conservation efforts. Return to your camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Olpejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive focusing on rhino tracking and predator activity, with the chance to see both black and white rhinos at close range. The conservancy’s open plains also provide excellent sightings of lions, hyenas, and plains game, with Mount Kenya often visible in the background. Later in the morning, you may visit the equator crossing point located within the conservancy. Return to the camp for lunch and a period of relaxation. In the afternoon, set out for another comprehensive game drive, exploring different sections of the conservancy and learning about Ol Pejeta’s anti-poaching initiatives, wildlife research programs, and community partnerships. Optional activities such as a guided nature walk or night game drive may be arranged, depending on camp availability. Dinner and overnight will be at your camp.
