Walking & Canoeing in Arusha National Park

Walking & Canoeing in Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park is one of the most exceptional and conveniently located safari destinations in northern Tanzania. Despite its small size, the park offers remarkable diversity — from the rainforest slopes of Mount Meru to Momella Lakes and wide savannah plains.

A highlight is the walking safari, one of the few allowed in Tanzania. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you may encounter giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, and buffalo from just 20–30 meters.

After the 1.5-hour walk, continue in a Land Cruiser to Momella Lakes, where flamingos, hornbills, ibises, pelicans, vultures, and other birds abound. Enjoy a peaceful break from the classic Land Cruiser game drive and go canoeing at Momella Lake. During this two-hour paddling journey, you'll be surrounded by a diverse array of water birds. Wildlife such as buffaloes, antelopes, and giraffes may also come into view as they approach the shore. In clear weather, you'll be treated to the majestic view of Mount Meru.

Day 3

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is where pink flamingos from all over Africa flock. At times, there are hundreds of thousands covering the shores of Lake Manyara, making it appear pink from a distance. Up close, you can see the individual birds along the lakefront of this amazing area. Your guide will share more about these beautiful birds. Flamingos on Lake Manyara are found between the months of April and November.

You will not likely see them in other months of the year. Even so, their presence is not guaranteed, as weather, predators of unpredictable rainfall can impact their movement. In addition to pink flamingos, Lake Manyara is home to over 400 species of other birds. This is one of the best places in all of Tanzania to enjoy watching birds, as you can see a vast quantity and variety in the forests around the lake. In addition to birds, you will surely see giraffes, elephants, warthogs, antelopes, zebras and other African wildlife.

Day 4

Hot Air Balloon Safari in Tarangire

Hot Air Balloon Safari in Tarangire

Be ready to wake up early! Your hot air balloon ride begins at dawn. A car will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the launch site — you might spot rare nocturnal animals along the way. Mornings can be cool, so wear a warm sweater or light jacket.

Watch the balloon being inflated, then climb into the basket as it rises over the savannah. For 1.5 hours, enjoy a breathtaking aerial safari, spotting wildlife from above. After a smooth landing, celebrate with a picnic breakfast and non-alcoholic champagne, and receive a certificate to remember the adventure. Your guide will pick you up for a game-drive or return to your hotel.

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most fascinating parks. The river attracts giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes, drawing lions as well. In the dry season, elephants gather here in large herds, often approaching safari vehicles safely, offering incredible wildlife encounters.

Day 5

Classic Game Drive in Tarangire National Park

Classic Game Drive in Tarangire National Park

Your second day in Tarangire National Park. Your Altezza guide will show you the sections of Tarangire that you did not have time to visit yesterday. There are a lot of interesting locations with beautiful views, and even more African animals. In Tarangire, you can see rare species, some of which are not usually found even in the Serengeti, such as long-necked gerenuks and oryx.

Also in Tarangire, there are hyraxes - small funny animals that are the closest relatives of elephants, despite their very different size. It is very interesting to watch them, and they willingly let visitors come fairly close for photos only (remember: no touching wildlife!).

In addition, bird lovers will be interested in Tarangire because there are more than 550 species of birds here! We have good resolution binoculars in our car so you can see them even better.

Iconic Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will visit the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Formed by an ancient volcano, this natural amphitheater is home to an incredible concentration of wildlife, often described as one of the densest in Africa.
After a scenic descent through lush forest, you’ll explore the crater floor, where elephants, buffaloes, zebras, lions and even rare black rhinos can be seen. Most animals remain inside the caldera thanks to its year-round water and grazing.
You’ll enjoy a picnic near Lake Magadi, where hippos rest in the shallows and birds circle overhead. It’s a truly unique safari setting and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
