Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater
Prepare for an early departure as we descend into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, often regarded as the crown jewel of Tanzania’s natural wonders. This vast caldera was formed millions of years ago when a towering volcano—once thought to rival the height of Mount Kilimanjaro—collapsed in on itself. Today it remains the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, creating a remarkable natural sanctuary rich in scenery and wildlife.
Within its approximately 100-square-mile floor lies a thriving ecosystem supporting more than 25,000 animals. Among them is the endangered Black Rhinoceros, one of Africa’s most elusive species. The crater’s alkaline lake often shimmers with thousands of flamingos along the shore, while hippos rest quietly in the cool water nearby.
After a picnic lunch on the crater floor, the journey continues toward the vast plains of Serengeti National Park, arriving in time for an evening game drive as the setting sun casts a golden glow across the savannah.

Central Serengeti
Central Serengeti
In the Maasai language, “Serengeti” translates to “endless plains,” and it’s an apt description of this vast expanse. Here lies one of the last remaining savannas, a pristine habitat teeming with life and one of earth’s oldest ecosystems.
For many, the Serengeti is synonymous with the great wildebeest migration—a spectacle that draws nature lovers from around the globe. However, the Central Serengeti holds a treasure trove of wildlife experiences beyond the migration. Central Serengeti is recognised as Africa’s premier national park for lion sightings.
Our day begins at first light when the park is bathed in the serene quietude of dawn. This is the magic hour for wildlife enthusiasts, as lions are at their most active, prowling the plains in search of prey, before they find shade to chill for the rest of the day.

Northern Serengeti
Northern Serengeti
Today we will set out to witness the spectacular wildebeest migration—the greatest animal migration on earth! It is a day that requires patience, and where the crossing is not guaranteed, but just imagine the thrill of possibly seeing these majestic creatures make their daring crossing over the Mara River, a moment many only dream of experiencing.
We will give ourselves all day to see the crossing. How the day develops will depend on what the wildebeests decide to do, but one thing we can guarantee is plenty of anticipation!
We will return back to the same camp for the night and have another chance to sit around the fire and compare tales with other safari goers.

Ol Doinyo Lengai
Begin the day with a final morning game drive in Serengeti National Park, offering one more opportunity to witness wildlife and, if fortune allows, the dramatic Mara River crossing of the Great Migration. By mid-morning we depart for Lake Natron, traveling through remote landscapes far from the usual safari routes. Along the way, we stop at a small local eatery to enjoy a traditional Tanzanian BBQ, a simple but authentic taste of local culture.
Arriving in the early afternoon, there is an optional hike to a nearby waterfall, reached by wading through a shallow river—an invigorating walk that adds a touch of adventure to the day. As evening approaches, we gather to admire the striking silhouette of Ol Doinyo Lengai rising above the Rift Valley. With a drink in hand and sweeping views across the landscape, it is a memorable close to a day of exploration. While tonight’s accommodation is simple, the scenery is truly exceptional.

The peaceful setting offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography while experiencing the quiet beauty of this remote landscape.
Our exploration continues to a remarkable archaeological site where ancient human footprints were preserved in volcanic ash from a long-ago eruption.
