Day 1

Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

You will be met at the airport in Nairobi or at your city hotel and briefed on the details of your safari before driving through central Kenya toward the northern region, where the wilderness of Samburu National Reserve awaits. The drive is scenic, passing through the Kenyan highlands and historic areas, with opportunities to stop along the way for views.

Arrive in time for lunch at your camp, then relax before heading out for an afternoon game drive. This is one of the best times of day to view nocturnal hunters as they prepare for their nightly activity. Begin your first game drive in Samburu, where you may spot wildlife such as reticulated giraffes, Grevy's zebras, and the elusive leopard.

Return to your lodge for dinner and relax by the campfire, sharing stories of the day’s adventures.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve

Dawn breaks with birds singing and whistling as you start your day in the bush, scanning the river from your tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew lifts from the grass, set off in pursuit of elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. You will take your lunch with you as you depart in the morning.

The whole day is spent exploring this remarkable game reserve, offering a refreshing experience in a park that is less visited and not as crowded. The park is home to the Big Five—elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, and buffalo—as well as gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, endangered wild dog, and the pancake tortoise, which is also endangered.

Over 450 species of birds have been recorded here, including Somali ostriches and aquatic species found along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the camp.
