Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. This first evening is set aside for you to relax and recover from your journey.

Depending on your arrival time, you may have some free time to rest at the hotel or explore a little of Dar es Salaam at your own pace. Your safari team will also brief you about the adventure ahead and confirm the departure arrangements for the following morning.

Enjoy a relaxed evening and a good night's sleep before beginning your southern Tanzania safari.

Day 2

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the SGR station. After completing the necessary boarding procedures, begin your journey by modern train towards Morogoro.

On arrival in Morogoro, meet your driver/guide and drive towards Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is a beautiful park with wide open plains, woodland and plenty of wildlife. During your afternoon game drive, you will have the chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes and many bird species. If you are lucky, you may also encounter lions resting in the shade or moving through the grasslands.

As the sun begins to set, you will leave the park and head to your campsite for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 3

Mikumi to Ruaha National Park

Mikumi to Ruaha National Park

Your day begins early with a morning game drive in Mikumi. Starting around 6:00 am gives you a good opportunity to see animals when they are most active, before the heat of the day sets in.

After the game drive, return to camp for breakfast, collect your packed lunch and continue towards Ruaha National Park. The journey takes you further into southern Tanzania, through rural landscapes and local communities. As you get closer to Ruaha, the scenery becomes increasingly wild and remote. You may also have opportunities for wildlife viewing along the way.

You will arrive at your camp later in the day, where you can settle in, enjoy dinner and rest in preparation for the following day's full safari experience.

Exploring Safari in Ruaha National Park

Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent Ruaha National Park. After breakfast, you will head into the park for a full day of game viewing with a packed lunch.

Ruaha is famous for its rugged landscapes, enormous baobab trees, the Great Ruaha River and its rich concentration of wildlife. The park is particularly rewarding during the dry season, when animals gather around available water sources.
Throughout the day, you will explore different areas of the park in search of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes and predators. Lions are regularly encountered, while leopards and African wild dogs may also be seen.

You will stop at a suitable spot for your picnic lunch before continuing with the afternoon game drive. Later, you will return to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Ruaha to Morogoro

Ruaha to Morogoro

After breakfast, you will enjoy a short game drive as you leave Ruaha National Park. It is a final opportunity to enjoy the park and perhaps catch sight of wildlife before beginning the journey towards Morogoro.

Along the way, you will visit Kalenga Village, a historically important site where you can learn more about the history and heritage of the area.

You will then continue to Morogoro, a vibrant town beautifully positioned beneath the Uluguru Mountains. After the wilderness experiences of Mikumi and Ruaha, the mountains and local communities provide a refreshing change of scenery.
On arrival, check in at Nashera Lodge and take some time to relax. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at the lodge.

Day 6

Morogoro to Nyerere National Park

Morogoro to Nyerere National Park

After breakfast, you will leave Morogoro and continue towards Nyerere National Park with a packed lunch for the journey.
Nyerere National Park offers a very different safari experience from the parks visited earlier in the trip. Its vast wilderness, waterways, woodland and open areas provide a home for a remarkable variety of wildlife.

Once in the park, you will begin exploring the area on a game drive. Keep your camera ready as you search for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, antelopes and other wildlife.

After your day's exploration, you will head to the campsite for dinner and a peaceful evening surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.

Exploring Nyerere National Park & Boat Safari

After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive through Nyerere National Park. The early hours are ideal for wildlife viewing, as the temperatures are cooler and many animals are still active. You will spend the morning exploring the reserve and looking for elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, crocodiles and a wide variety of birds.

After returning to camp for lunch and a short rest, your afternoon adventure will continue on the Rufiji River. The boat safari offers a completely different way of experiencing Nyerere National Park. From the water, you can observe hippos in the river, crocodiles along the banks and birds moving through the surrounding wetlands.

The boat trip is also a beautiful way to enjoy the changing colors of the landscape as the afternoon moves towards sunset. Afterwards, return to camp for dinner and your final night in the wilderness.

After breakfast, you will begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam. As you travel out of the Nyerere National Park area, enjoy the final views of the Tanzanian countryside and reflect on the experiences of your safari. Over the past week, you will have explored three very different wildlife areas, experienced game drives and enjoyed a boat safari on the Rufiji River.

On arrival in Dar es Salaam, your driver will drop you at your preferred hotel or another location of your choice.

This marks the end of your Southern Tanzania Adventure, with memories of the wildlife, landscapes, local culture and wilderness experiences to take home with you.
