Depart Nairobi in the morning and travel north through changing landscapes towards Samburu. Arrive in time for lunch before an afternoon game drive through the Samburu National Reserve. Explore the dry savannah, rocky hills and Ewaso Nyiro River ecosystem while searching for elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, zebras and giraffes. This is also the beginning of the search for Samburu’s famous Special Five – Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Beisa oryx. After breakfast, depart Samburu and travel south through the scenic Laikipia landscape to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive through this renowned conservation area. Look for the Big Five, particularly black and white rhinos, elephants, lions and buffaloes. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary if operating within the schedule, and learn about its important conservation work.
