Your safari begins when your Tapestry of Africa safari guide picks you up from Nairobi International Airport or your Nairobi hotel. From there, you will travel north through Kenya’s beautiful countryside to Samburu National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch and a chance to settle into your lodge. Later that afternoon, head out on your first game drive through Samburu’s rugged landscapes and along the wildlife-rich Ewaso Nyiro River.
Over the next two days, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in search of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, and Samburu’s unique northern species, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx. Between game drives, you will relax at your lodge or opt for a visit to a Samburu village for an opportunity to learn about the traditions, culture, and daily life of the Samburu people.

Day 4-5
Samburu National Reserve - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, you will leave Samburu and travel south through Kenya’s beautiful highlands to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, arriving around lunchtime. After checking into your lodge and enjoying lunch, head out to explore this remarkable private conservancy, known for its beautiful Laikipia landscapes, excellent wildlife viewing, and some of the most important conservation programs in East Africa.
During your stay, look out for elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and both black and white rhinos. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which provides a lifelong home for rescued chimpanzees, and learn about Ol Pejeta’s rhino conservation efforts. You’ll have the opportunity to visit Najin and Fatu, the world’s last two northern white rhinos.

Day 6-7

After breakfast, you will travel through Kenya’s spectacular Great Rift Valley toward Lake Nakuru National Park, with the option to stop at beautiful Thomson’s Falls along the way. Arrive at your lodge around lunchtime, check in, and enjoy lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Explore the park’s forests, grasslands, and lakeshore while looking out for black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, zebras, lions, and abundant birdlife.
The following morning, travel to nearby Lake Naivasha for a scenic boat safari among hippos, fish eagles, pelicans, and other waterbirds. Continue to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari, where you can walk among giraffes, zebras, antelope, and other wildlife. Return to your lodge at Lake Nakuru for lunch before heading out on another afternoon game drive through the national park.

Day 8-10
Lake Nakuru National Park - Masai Mara National Reserve

Leave Lake Nakuru after breakfast and travel through the magnificent Great Rift Valley toward the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. You will arrive at your safari lodge or tented camp around lunchtime, enjoy lunch and time to settle in, then head out for your first game drive across the Mara’s sweeping grasslands and classic African savannah.
Over the next two days, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, and numerous antelope species. Visit areas along the Mara River, where hippos and crocodiles gather, and look out for seasonal Great Migration activity. You may also opt for a visit to a Maasai village to experience the traditions and culture of the Maasai people.

Day 11-13

After breakfast, you will leave the Masai Mara and begin your journey toward Tanzania, traveling through rural communities, farmland, and small villages before reaching the border. After completing immigration formalities and stopping for lunch, you will meet your Tanzania safari guide and continue to Serengeti National Park, enjoying wildlife viewing as you cross the plains toward your lodge or tented camp.
The next two days are devoted to exploring the legendary Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. Travel across vast grasslands, acacia-dotted plains, rocky kopjes, and river valleys while looking out for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, and countless other species. Enjoy plenty of time to stop, observe, photograph, and appreciate the incredible wildlife around you.

Day 14-15
Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will leave the Serengeti and travel toward the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Around midday, descend into the enormous volcanic crater, where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by some of Africa’s most dramatic scenery before spending the afternoon viewing wildlife across the crater floor. Later, ascend the crater walls and continue to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.
The following morning, return to the crater for a full day of exploration through its grasslands, forests, wetlands, and lakes. Look out for lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, wildebeest, zebras, hyenas, and the endangered black rhino. Enjoy another scenic picnic lunch inside the crater before continuing your game drive and returning to your lodge later that afternoon.

Day 16-17

After breakfast, you will travel toward Tarangire National Park, stopping along the way at the colorful village of Mto wa Mbu for a glimpse of everyday Tanzanian life and a chance to sample the area’s famous red bananas. Continue to your safari lodge, arriving around lunchtime. After lunch and time to settle in, head out on your first game drive through Tarangire’s beautiful baobab-dotted landscapes.
Spend the following day exploring a park renowned for its enormous elephant herds and impressive concentrations of wildlife. Follow the Tarangire River, which attracts animals from across the surrounding ecosystem, while looking out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, lions, antelope, and abundant birdlife. Between game drives, relax at your lodge and take in the distinctive scenery of northern Tanzania.

After breakfast, you will leave Tarangire and travel north toward the Kenyan border, where you’ll complete immigration formalities and reunite with your Kenyan safari guide. Continue to Amboseli National Park, arriving around lunchtime. After checking into your lodge and enjoying lunch, head out on an afternoon game drive across Amboseli’s open plains, wetlands, and acacia woodlands beneath magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro.
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in search of Amboseli’s famous elephant herds, along with lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, and abundant birdlife. Clear mornings and evenings often offer spectacular views of snowcapped Kilimanjaro towering above the plains, creating incredible photographic opportunities and a memorable finale to your safari through Kenya and Tanzania.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, your Tapestry of Africa safari guide will drop you off at your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departing flight, bringing your unforgettable 20-day journey through Kenya and Tanzania to a close.
