Day 1-3

Into the Wild – Discovering Samburu National Reserve

Your safari begins when your Tapestry of Africa safari guide picks you up from Nairobi International Airport or your Nairobi hotel. From there, travel north through Kenya’s beautiful countryside to Samburu National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch and a chance to settle into your lodge. Later that afternoon, head out on your first game drive through Samburu’s rugged landscapes and along the wildlife-rich Ewaso Nyiro River.

Over the next two days, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives searching for elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, and Samburu’s unique northern species, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx. Between game drives, relax at your lodge or choose an optional Samburu village visit for an opportunity to learn about the traditions, culture, and daily life of the Samburu people.

After breakfast, leave Samburu and travel south through Kenya’s beautiful highlands to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, arriving around lunchtime. After checking into your lodge and enjoying lunch, head out to begin exploring this remarkable private conservancy, known for its beautiful Laikipia landscapes, excellent wildlife viewing, and some of the most important conservation programs in East Africa.

During your stay, search for elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and both black and white rhinos. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which provides a lifelong home for rescued chimpanzees, and learn about Ol Pejeta’s extraordinary rhino conservation work. You’ll also have an opportunity to visit Najin and Fatu, the world’s last two northern white rhinos.

Lakes, Wildlife & Water – Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, travel into Kenya’s spectacular Great Rift Valley toward Lake Nakuru National Park, with the option to stop along the way at beautiful Thomson’s Falls. Arrive at your lodge around lunchtime, check in, and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Explore the park’s forests, grasslands, and lakeshore while searching for black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, zebras, lions, and abundant birdlife.

The following morning, travel to nearby Lake Naivasha for a scenic boat safari among hippos, fish eagles, pelicans, and other waterbirds. Continue to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari, where you can walk among giraffes, zebras, antelope, and other wildlife. Return to Lake Nakuru for lunch at your lodge, followed by another afternoon game drive through the national park.

Arrive at your safari lodge or tented camp around lunchtime, enjoy lunch and time to settle in, then head out that afternoon for your first game drive across the Mara’s sweeping grasslands and classic African savannah.

Over the next two days, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives searching for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, and numerous antelope species. Visit areas along the Mara River where hippos and crocodiles gather and watch for seasonal Great Migration activity. After breakfast, leave the Maasai Mara and begin your journey toward Tanzania, traveling through rural communities, farmland, and small villages before reaching the border. After completing immigration formalities and stopping for lunch, meet your Tanzania safari guide and continue toward Serengeti National Park, enjoying wildlife viewing as you make your way across the plains toward your lodge or tented camp.

The next two days are devoted to exploring the legendary Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. Travel across vast grasslands, acacia-dotted plains, rocky kopjes, and river valleys while searching for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, and countless other species. After breakfast, leave the Serengeti and travel toward the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the enormous volcanic crater around midday, where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by some of Africa’s most dramatic scenery before spending the afternoon game viewing across the crater floor. Later, ascend the crater walls and continue to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.

The following morning, return to the crater for a full day of exploration through its grasslands, forests, wetlands, and lakes. Search for lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, wildebeest, zebras, hyenas, and the endangered black rhino.
