Day 2

Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, depart Nairobi and head southwest towards the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The journey is part of the experience. As you leave Nairobi behind, the scenery changes from city streets to open countryside, with views across the Great Rift Valley and small towns and villages along the way.

Arrive in the Mara area around lunchtime and check in at Mara Endeem Resort. After lunch and a short rest, head out for your first afternoon game drive.

The Mara's open grasslands provide an excellent setting for wildlife viewing. Your guide will follow the day's sightings and conditions, in search of big five and plan wildife. The reserve is also home to large predators, including lions and cheetahs, although sightings are never guaranteed.

As the afternoon progresses, the cooler temperatures bring movement across the plains and the changing light gives the landscape a completely different character.

Return to the resort in the evening for dinner and your first night in the Mara.

Day 3

Full-Day Masai Mara National Reserve

Full-Day Masai Mara National Reserve

Today is your main Masai Mara safari day.

After an early breakfast, set out with your guide for a full day game drive. Starting early gives you the opportunity to experience the Mara during the cooler part of the morning, when wildlife is often active. Rather than following a fixed route. The day may bring you close to large herds of wildebeest and zebra, elephants moving across the plains, giraffes feeding among the scattered trees or buffalo gathering in large numbers.

The Mara is particularly famous for its big cats so your guide will also keep watch for lions, cheetahs and, if you are fortunate, leopards. Driver will carry a picnic lunch and spend much of the day out in the reserve before continuing with the afternoon game drive.

If you are travelling during the Great Migration season, you may also witness large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra in the Mara ecosystem.

Return to Mara Endeem Resort in the evening.

Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru National Park

Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, leave the Mara and travel towards Lake Nakuru National Park.

The drive takes you back through Kenya's rural countryside and into the Great Rift Valley. This is a longer road journey, but it provides an opportunity to see another side of Kenya away from the national parks.

On arrival in the Nakuru area, continue into Lake Nakuru National Park for a game drive, depending on your arrival time.

Lake Nakuru is particularly known for its rhino population, as well as its birdlife and scenic Rift Valley setting. The park's woodland and grassland areas are home to buffalo, zebra, giraffe, waterbuck and other wildlife. Lions are also present, and you may encounter other predators during the drive.

The lake and surrounding landscape change with the season and water levels, so the scenery you encounter will depend on the time of year.

After the game drive, leave the park and continue to Oldorado Rustic Hotel & Garden for check-in, dinner and overnight.

Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha – Boat Ride

After breakfast, continue towards Lake Naivasha, travelling through the Great Rift Valley.

Naivasha provides a slower and more relaxed experience after several days of game drives. The freshwater lake is surrounded by acacia woodland and supports abundant birdlife.

On arrival, check in at Burch's Resort and have lunch.

Later in the afternoon, head out onto the lake for a boat ride.

From the water, you get a different perspective of the Naivasha landscape. Keep an eye out for African fish eagles perched in the trees and hippos resting in or around the water. The boat ride is also a chance to slow down and simply enjoy the scenery after the long road journeys and wildlife drives.

Return to the resort afterwards for dinner and a relaxed evening.

Day 6

Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park

Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, depart Naivasha for Amboseli National Park.

This is another long travel day as you cross southern Kenya towards the Tanzanian border. The scenery gradually changes from the Rift Valley landscapes around Naivasha to the drier plains and open country surrounding Amboseli.

Have lunch en route before continuing towards the park.

Arrive at Nyati Safari Camp and check in.

Depending on your arrival time and park conditions, you may have an opportunity for an afternoon game drive. If you arrive too late for a meaningful game drive, the evening is spent at camp, allowing you to rest and enjoy the surroundings.

Amboseli is famous for its elephants and its spectacular setting beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. On clear days, the mountain provides one of Kenya's most recognisable safari backdrops.

Full-Day Amboseli National Park

Wake up early for your final full day of safari in Amboseli National Park.

The morning begins with a game drive as the sun rises over the Amboseli plains. If the weather is clear, this is also one of the best opportunities to see Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build around the summit.

Explore the park's open grasslands and wetland areas with your guide. Amboseli is particularly famous for its elephants, some of which can be seen moving between the feeding grounds and the wetlands.

You may also encounter buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippos and several species of antelope. Birdlife is abundant around the wetland areas.

Return to camp for breakfast and some time to rest.

Later in the afternoon, head out for another game drive. The changing afternoon light brings a different atmosphere to the park, and your guide will decide where to spend time based on wildlife activity.

Amboseli – Nairobi / Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Enjoy an early breakfast before beginning the journey back to Nairobi.

If your flight tcicket schedule permits, you can start the morning with a short final game drive in Amboseli. This gives you one last opportunity to see wildlife and enjoy the open plains before leaving the park.

Depart Amboseli and drive towards Nairobi, passing through the rural landscapes of southern Kenya.

Continue to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your onward flight or, if your flight is later, drop-off at your preferred location in Nairobi.

Your 8-day Kenya safari ends with memories of the Mara's wildlife, the Rift Valley lakes and the elephants of Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro.
