The picturesque Nyerere National Park is a unique and pristine safari destination. As a part of Selous Game Reserve, it belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site as the oldest and largest protected nature reserve in Tanzania. It bursts with life, most of all wildlife parks on the entire African continent. Besides an abundance of hippos, buffaloes and crocodiles, you will usually see water-bucks and impala n in the water meadows and elephants and lions drinking water. More than 40 species of birds will entertain you with their acrobatics and song. Although your eyes will be fastened on the river banks, don't miss the opportunity to spot some of the many fish and crustacean living in the river.

This is the Africa’s Largest National Park! The Park with staggering size of 30,893km2 host one of the world’s largest concentration of wildlife. The collection of wildlife both in diversity and abundance is just remarquable! Visitors to this vast sanctuary will be able to see astounding volume of wildlife both rare and common species.

Day 3

After breakfast you will embark on a wilderness walking safari that will add a particularly intimate feel to the African wilds.

Nature Walk safaris offer a good chance to see giraffe, zebra, elephant and a wide variety of birds. Your walk will be under the guidance of professional guide. After your walk you will return to camp, check-out and begin your drive to Morogoro region with a packed lunch to enjoy along the way. Your journey will take you over the Uluguru Mountains, across rivers and past small local villages and farms. Upon arrival in Morogoro enjoy a sunset as you make your way to to the Lodge.

The park history dates back to 1910 when it was gazetted Saba Game Reserve by the Germany then the name was changed by British to Rungwa Game reseve in 1946. In 1964 the southern portion of the Game was gazetted as Ruaha national park and in 1974 a small section of South Eastern part of the Great Ruaha River was incorporated into the park. The name “Ruaha” originates from the Hehe word “Ruvaha”, which means “river”. Ruaha National Park is part of Rungwa-Kizigo –Muhesi ecosystem which covers more than 45000km2. In 2008 Usangu game Reserve and other important wetlands in Usangu basin have been annexed into the park, making it the largest park in Tanzania and East Africa with an area of about 20226km2.

Ruaha is believed to have high concentration of elephants than any national park in East Africa. It is also a place where, magnificent mammals like Kudu (both Greater and Lesser), Sable and Roan antelopes can easily be spotted in Miombo woodland. The male Kudu have beautiful spiraled horns while male Sable antelope have impressive curved horns. The park is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs. Other animals in the park include lions, leopards, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat eared foxes and Jackals.

Udzungwa is the largest and with most biodiversity and a chain of a dozen large forest-swathed mountains that rise majestically from the flat coastal scrub of eastern Tanzania. Known collectively as the Eastern Arc Mountains, this archipelago of isolated massifs has also been dubbed as the African Galapagos for its treasure-trove of endemic plants and animals, most familiarly being the delicate African violet.

09h30 Start the full day trekking to Sanje waterfalls.

There are several trails ranging from short 20min strolls, to 5 day expeditions. The most popular hike is up to Sanje Waterfalls, looking for monkeys, swimming in plunge pools, and enjoying the spectacular view. This is the prime attraction for this area and if you are a keen walker then taking at least one of these hiking opportunities is strongly recommended. Bear in mind, however, that it is very hot, particularly at midday, and this can have a considerable effect on even the fittest of walkers. We offer pack lunches, so make a day of it!

Mikumi is one of the most reliable places in Tanzania for sightings of the eland, the world's largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope can be found in the miombo woodland-covered foothills of the mountains that rise from the park's borders. The Lichtenstein's hartebeest is one of the more unusual antelopes found here.

More than 400 bird species have been recorded, with such colorful common residents as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw and bateleur eagle, joined by a host of European migratory birds from November to April. The hippo pool and Mwanambogo dam are a good place to see some of the water-associated birds like African fish eagle, African spoonbill and hamerkop, and the Mkata river offers great views of African openbills fishing.
