Into Western Uganda Kibale, Primate Capital of Africa

After breakfast, your private driver-guide takes you on a scenic 5–6 hr drive through lush countryside, crater lakes, and tea estates toward Kibale National Park. After settling into your forest lodge, explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary with a community conservation guide. A wooden boardwalk takes you through palms and papyrus as you search for colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, sitatunga antelope, and Uganda’s most iconic birds like the Great Blue Turaco. This peaceful walk is perfect for families—easy terrain, slow pace, and rich storytelling about local culture and conservation.

Track the Chimpanzees of Kibale

An early start takes you into Kibale Forest—cool, misty, and alive with primate calls. It is one of the best places in Africa to track and observe chimpanzees in the wild due to its large population of habituated chimpanzees. While tracking chimpanzees, visitors may also encounter other wildlife species including other primates such as red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and L'Hoest's monkeys, as well as various bird species and forest mammals.

Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park offers a unique and memorable wildlife experience, allowing visitors to connect with these remarkable animals in their natural environment. Once you find them, settle in for an unforgettable hour as they groom, play, feed, and crash through the canopy.

Big Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda's most famous and diverse protected areas, located in the western part of the country. The park covers an area of about 1,978 square kilometers (764 square miles), making it Uganda's second-largest national park. It's home to an array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and over 600 bird species.

At sunrise, set out on a classic African game drive across Kasenyi Plains. This is big game country, with sweeping views and endless photo opportunities. Your expert guide helps the family spot tracks, behavior signs, and hidden animals.

After lunch, cruise the Kazinga Channel—one of Africa’s densest hippo and crocodile habitats. The boat glides quietly past elephants drinking at the water’s edge, buffalo cooling off, and dozens of bird species. It’s safe, close-up, and incredibly rewarding. Queen Elizabeth National Park is renowned for its incredible biodiversity, the wide variety of ecosystems.

Off to the land of the gentle giants of Bwindi

After breakfast, drive south through the remote Ishasha sector, where iconic tree-climbing lions often laze in fig trees. Your guide scans carefully—this is one of Africa’s rarest lion behaviors. This section is home to the tree-climbing lions. While lions do often climb trees around Africa, the lions of Ishasha prefer to spend most of their day in the trees.

Continue into the emerald hills of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, arriving at your lodge with views of thick, ancient rainforest. This is a slower-paced afternoon for families to rest, meet your trekking coordinator, and prepare for the next day’s extraordinary gorilla experience. Once at your accommodation, settle in and prepare for the next day's great trek. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwestern Uganda. It is renowned for its dense and pristine tropical rainforest, which is home to one of the most endangered species on Earth—the mountain gorillas.

A Trek like no other with the gorillas of Bwindi

Today is the highlight of your entire safari. After a detailed briefing, you enter the forest with experienced rangers who track the movements of your assigned gorilla family. The trek can be gentle or moderately challenging depending on the group’s location, and your guide ensures everyone is comfortable. When you finally meet the gorillas, the world goes silent—watch them feed, play, and interact at arm’s length. Children (15+) often describe this as one of the most emotional moments of their lives.

There are only about 1,060 mountain gorillas left in the world. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a captivating and transformative experience that allows visitors to come face-to-face with one of the most majestic and endangered creatures on Earth—the mountain gorilla.
