Transfer from Kigali International Airport to Mgahinga Natinal Park

You will be welcomed by our tour guide from Great Explorers safaris who will transfer you to Bwindi. Along the way, you will catch a glimpse of the beautiful hills mapped with terraces in Rwanda and around one of the most clean cities in Africa.
Upon Arrival at the border of Uganda & Rwanda, you will be cleared and then transferred to the Traveler's Rest in Kisoro near Mgahinga National Park. Traveler's Rest is one of the oldest hotels in Uganda with a history steeped in Gorilla Conservation. Built in 1955 by Walter Baumgartel, the so-called father of gorilla tourism, it quickly became a meeting place for people interested in the mountain gorillas. Some of the notable people who have graced the place include Dian Fossey. The area is of astonishing beauty, and the views of the Virunga volcanoes dominating the landscape will remain engraved in your memory.

Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

You will rise relatively early for breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla trekking. The report to the ranger station is at 8:00 am, where the guides will take you through the forest, parting thick creepers to the gorillas. (This trek can take from 4-8 hours. A reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. You'll sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It’s amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left in the world! You'll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Transfer to Kigali International Airport

You'll have your morning breakfast and check out of your lodge. You'll start the road drive to Kigali International Airport. Depending on the time of your flight and your wishes, you may visit the Genocide Memorial. Later, you'll drive to the airport in time for your flight back home. You'll exchange hugs with your driver-guide and say goodbye to the pearl of Africa after spending memorable days in this beautiful country.
