Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport in the morning and depart for Samburu National Reserve by road. Wild, rugged, and located in Kenya’s northern frontier district, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Ewaso Nyiro River. It is one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebras, beisa oryx, gerenuk gazelle, and greater and lesser kudu. You will arrive in time for lunch and check in at the lodge. After a few minutes of leisure, you will go on your first thrilling game drive in the reserve until sunset. After breakfast, we’ll embark on a full-day game drive with a packed lunch in hand. The reserve is renowned for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife, making it one of the few places where you can spot the “Big Five” in a single morning's drive. Some cheetahs are so accustomed to vehicles that they seek shade under them, and a few even climb onto the roof for a better vantage point! Bird enthusiasts will delight in the nearly 500 recorded species found here, including 16 species of eagles, numerous hawks and falcons, six species of vultures, eight species of storks, four species of bustards (including the kori bustard, the world's heaviest flying bird), and nine species of sunbirds. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
