Otjiwarongo To Etosha National Park

The Etosha National Park offers excellent game viewing in one of Africa’s most accessible venues. Zebra and springbok are scattered across the endless horizon, while the many waterholes attract endangered black rhinoceros, lion, elephant and large numbers of antelope. Etosha, meaning ‘place of dry water’, is encloses a huge, flat calcrete depression (or pan) of about 5 000km². The pan itself contains water only after very good rains and sometimes for only a few days each year but is enough to stimulate the growth of a blue-green algae which lures thousands of flamingos.

Etosha Village is located near the southern entrance of the park, and famous for its floodlit waterhole, where visitors can observe at close quarters a spectacle of wildlife congregating and interacting.

Local Park fees are not included in price.

Day 3

Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park

Full day in the park, you can choose to do this self-guided or book a guided excursion with the lodge.

Etosha Pan
The Etosha pan is undoubtedly, massive. It is the most distinctive feature of the park and can even be seen from space. It is believed that it was formed over 100 million years ago and is 130 km’s long and up to 50 km’s wide in certain places. This means that the pan covers almost a quarter of the entire park!

Waterholes
Waterholes are usually a redeeming feature in any major national park and Etosha is no different. They are a great place to silently observe game and see them in their natural environment, away from noisy mechanical beasts that we often view wildlife from. Each waterhole in Etosha is different and animals spotted at each vary from season to season. The main waterholes in Etosha include Okaukuejo, Okondeka, Halali and Goas and Sueda and Salvadora.

Day 5

Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park

Early morning, departure to Etosha National Park. The Etosha Pan is a vast, bare, open expanse of shimmering green and white that covers around 4,800km², almost a quarter of the beautiful Etosha National Park. At 130 km’s long and up to 50km’s wide in places, it is comfortably the largest salt pan in Africa and is the park’s most distinctive and dramatic feature, visible even from space. The pan was originally a lake but over time the earth’s climate forced the rivers that once fed the lake to change course and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. If one were to try find where the lake once lay today, only the dry baked alkaline clay marks would give you a clue.
