Nakupenda Island

Prison Island
Located a 30-minute boat ride from Zanzibar, Prison Island offers a unique blend of history and nature. Key highlights include:
- Tortoise Sanctuary: The island’s main attraction is a colony of Aldabra giant tortoises, some of which are over 150 years old.
- History: Originally built in 1893 as a prison facility, it never served that purpose and instead functioned as a quarantine station for yellow fever.
