Start your adventure at 4:00 AM with a pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam, then drive to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), one of the largest and most pristine wildlife areas in Africa.

Spend the day exploring the vast wilderness on an exciting game drive, where your expert safari guide will help you spot rare and fascinating wildlife, including African wild dogs, sable antelope, black rhinos, Nile crocodiles, hippos along the Rufiji River, as well as Cape buffalo, hartebeest, and eland roaming the savannah.

Enjoy a picnic lunch and refreshing drinks served in the heart of the park, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wild. In the late afternoon, head back to camp for dinner and an overnight stay at Nyerere Tented Camp, where you can relax under the stars and reflect on the day’s unforgettable experiences.

Boat trip then drive back to Dar es salaam

After an early breakfast at 6:30 AM, you’ll depart for the banks of the Rufiji River. The boat safari usually begins at 7:30 AM and returns around 9:00 AM—a perfect morning excursion to soak in the beauty and serenity of the river.

Glide through the calm waters as you enjoy the stunning scenery, with close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, and an array of colorful birdlife. This experience is especially rewarding for bird lovers, as Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) is home to over 350 bird species that gather along the riverbanks, making for excellent sightings in an open and vibrant setting.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can even try your hand at fishing for the fierce tiger fish or the large catfish that thrive in these waters. After the boat safari, you’ll begin your return journey to Dar es Salaam, with drop-off at your hotel, the airport, or the ferry terminal—concluding a memorable safari in the heart of Tanzania’s wild south.
