Day 2

Kigali – Nyungwe Forest

Kigali – Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast you will head for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Make stops en route at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. You will visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum in Butare, You will have Lunch en route before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest across cute hilly sceneries modified by tea plantations en route.

Report for primate tracking in the forest in search for chimpanzees, and colobus monkeys. You will continue on a guided nature walk in the forest searching for birds including; the black and white casqued hornbill, turaco and many others, the forest has over 300 species of birds. On the forest walk you will also see Gisakura water falls.

In this National park, Guided nature walk or primate treks of a particular interest are the large social groups of Angolan Colobus (Colobus angolensis), which may be over 300 individuals. These are the largest troops of this species known in the world! Nyungwe forest counts 25% of the African Primates. Have a full day in the primate world the retire to your lodge dinner and overnight.

After breakfast you will go for a nature walk in the morning before leaving for Lake Kivu in Kibuye. Drive through beautiful sceneries of tea plantations en route. Arrive Kibuye at the shores of Lake Kivu and take a late afternoon rest at the shores of cool water.

Day 7

Today you set off for gorilla trekking in Parc des Volcans. Ascending the slopes of the Virungas, you will be immersed in the dense, lush rainforest. The vibrant birdcalls and squabbles of the golden monkeys will eventually bring you to the gorillas in their natural habitat. Starring into the eyes of these gentle giants is a truly once in a lifetime experience.

Returning in the afternoon you can go for the optional Ibyiwatu Cultural group performance, where you will be entertained, and learn more about Rwandan culture, music, dance, and drama. Or take a visit to the twin lakes before returning to the lodge in the evening.

Day 8

Golden Monkey tracking and Volcano climbing

Golden Monkey tracking and Volcano climbing

You will climb Bisoke volcano and or Karisimbi volcano stunning scenery, crater lake which give nice views and forested slopes with bamboo forest. You will track golden monkeys which are listed among the endangered animal species. You may also visit the grave of Dian Fossey and the Research Centre he established at Karisoke. Drive back to Kigali for and overnight.

Day 9

Kigali City – Akagera National Park

After breakfast, take a few hours visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi before transferring to Akagera National Park. Drive to the Eastern part of Rwanda via Kayonza to Akagera National Park, Arriving later in the afternoon. You will have lunch then embark on an evening game drive.

Day 10

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park

Take a morning game drive to view the giraffes. Later break for lunch after which you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema searching for hippos, crocodiles and a variety bird species. You will continue your exploration along the lakes Kivumba, and to the giraffe valley before returning to the lodge for an evening rest.

You will take an early morning breakfast after which you will visit the height of Mutumba and view all the Akagera lakes from the highest point in the park.

Here Karangwe Mountains and Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania can be seen from a distance. Descend to a resort at the shores of the lake for lunch after which you will drive back to Kigali and transfer to Kanombe airport.
