After an early breakfast at your hotel in Dar es Salaam, we begin our scenic road journey to Nyerere National Park — one of Africa’s largest and most pristine wildlife reserves. As we drive through the heart of Tanzania's countryside, you'll pass rural villages, lush vegetation, and rolling landscapes that offer a glimpse of authentic local life. We arrive at the lodge by midday, just in time for a freshly prepared lunch and some relaxation.
Later in the afternoon, prepare for one of the most peaceful yet thrilling experiences: a sunset boat safari along the legendary Rufiji River. As the golden light reflects off the water, you’ll drift past pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and a rich array of birdlife including kingfishers, fish eagles, and bee-eaters. The stillness of the water and sounds of the bush create a magical atmosphere.
The day ends with a bush-style campfire dinner under the stars.

After an early breakfast, we begin our journey out of Nyerere National Park with a morning game drive, giving you one last chance to spot wildlife as the morning sun lights up the bush. We then hit the road heading northwest, passing through the lively town of Morogoro, nestled at the base of the majestic Uluguru Mountains. This scenic route showcases rural Tanzania at its finest — rolling hills, farms, villages, and vibrant local life. By mid-afternoon, we arrive at Mikumi National Park, a beautiful park often compared to the Serengeti for its wide open plains and abundant wildlife. Known for its lion prides, zebra herds, and grazing elephants, Mikumi offers a warm welcome with its peaceful atmosphere. Check in to your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening as you prepare for the next day’s full safari adventure.

The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, and as you traverse the open plains and woodland areas, you'll encounter zebra herds, towering giraffes, majestic elephants, wildebeest, and possibly even the elusive lion prides that call Mikumi home. A highlight of the day is the Mkata Floodplain, a vast grassland ecosystem often referred to as a “mini Serengeti” for its stunning resemblance and density of game. You’ll visit scenic hippo pools, where these massive animals laze in the water, and drive through acacia-dotted woodlands that are perfect habitats for antelope and birdlife. As we approach Ruaha, the scenery becomes wilder and more rugged, setting the tone for the days ahead. We arrive at your lodge or tented camp in the afternoon, giving you time to settle in and soak up the serenity of this remote location. No game drive is scheduled at this day, allowing you to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of your accommodation, perched near rivers or overlooking the bush. Gather around the campfire in the evening, listen to the sounds of the wild, and prepare for the thrilling game drives that begin tomorrow.

After an early breakfast, you’ll head out on a full-day game drive across a range of ecosystems, from baobab-studded hills and rocky outcrops to open savannahs and the banks of the Great Ruaha River. This region is a stronghold for large mammals, and you're likely to encounter massive elephant herds, buffalo, zebras, greater and lesser kudu, and sable antelope.
Ruaha is also known for having one of the highest concentrations of predators in East Africa, including large prides of lion, leopard, spotted hyena, and the increasingly rare African wild dog. Your experienced guide will help track and interpret the movements of the animals, giving you a deeper understanding of the ecosystem. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, surrounded by the silence and vastness of the wilderness, before continuing your safari into the late afternoon.
Return to the camp or lodge in the evening, where a warm meal and the sounds of the wild await.

After breakfast, we depart Ruaha and travel to the lush Udzungwa Mountains, known for their unique biodiversity and rainforest-covered slopes. This scenic drive takes you from dry savannah into green highlands. Upon arrival, check in and enjoy a short rest before setting off on an afternoon hike to Sanje Waterfalls, one of the highest in Tanzania at 170 meters. The trail winds through tropical forest, where you may spot rare monkeys like the Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje crested mangabey, plus colorful birds and butterflies. From the top of the falls, you'll enjoy stunning views over the Kilombero Valley. The drive offers a final chance to soak in Tanzania’s diverse scenery — from lush mountains to open countryside and bustling towns. Along the way, we’ll stop for lunch and stretch breaks. Upon arrival in Dar, you'll be transferred to Julius Nyerere International Airport for your departure flight or assisted with onward travel arrangements if you're continuing to Zanzibar for a beach extension. It’s the perfect end to a journey through Southern Tanzania’s wild and beautiful heart.
