Kirindy Forest is a good place to see some of Madagascar’s dry forest birds, which can be difficult to see elsewhere. Giant and Coquerel’s coua, greater and lesser vasa parrot, and flocks of grey-headed lovebird are just some of the interesting birds to look for. Other highlights include the Madagascar crested ibis and Madagascar pygmy kingfisher. When on a night walk looking for nocturnal lemurs and reptiles, keep an eye out for owls such as the white-browed owl and Madagascar scops owl, as well as the white-breasted mesite.

Best Time for Bird Watching
Bird watching in Kirindy is good throughout the year and many species can be seen at any time. However, October to April are the most productive bird-watching months as this is when birds are most vocal and active. To avoid the worst of the rains (December to March), visit in October, November and April.
