Eswatini Map
Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) has Mozambique on its eastern border but is otherwise surrounded by South Africa. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Ezulwini Valley in the country’s west, about 24km/15mi south of the capital Mbabane (30 minutes’ drive*), 27km/17mi west of Manzini (30 minutes’ drive*) and 50km/31mi southeast of the popular border post Oshoek (45 minutes’ drive*).
Most people visiting Mlilwane fly into Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) to start their South Africa–Eswatini trip. If you’re self-driving, you can hire a car in Johannesburg and drive to Mlilwane. It’s about 370km/230mi and the driving time is about 5 hours*.
You could also fly from Johannesburg to King Mswati III International Airport (SHO) in Sikhuphe, 50km/31mi east of Manzini, and hire a car to drive to Mlilwane. The 75km (46mi) drive takes about 1 hour*. Flights to Sikhuphe/Manzini can be booked with SA Airlink and Eswatini Air.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
