It is hard to go to Tanzania, and not see the Ngorongoro Crater. Though it can sometimes be crowded during high season, it is such a famous destination, and is a must see at some point or another. It has breathtaking vistas, and the terrain is unmatched. It is also a treat to see the native Maasai in their element, going about their business as you traverse through the area. Wonderful place.

To see the lions that rule the crater is incredible. We love this area and hiking around the area to the elephant caves as well.

excellent natural wonder but very crowded; you're never alone standing by the animals

Wonderful experience. You see many other vehicles and people. This was much different than our Serengeti experience.

While we didn't get very close to the animals at the crater, the scenery alone was worth the trip. It was magnificent!

Interesting geology, great drive into the crater and wonderful views from the top. We didn't see as many animals as the Serengeti (it was July) but we did see many varieties (missed the Rhino) including a kill.

You can't beat Ngorongoro for the sheer density of large mammals. That also includes humans. Tourist vehicles are everywhere. You just have to go in expecting to see a lot of people in addition to the wildlife.

If you're short on time and want to see big game, head straight to Ngorongoro. You'll see everything but giraffes here. There's so much wildlife it almost feels like a zoo.
